Rose Try the Narrabri and District Historical Society I called in to Narrabri Museum on the off chance one day when passing thru narrabri and found a treasure trove of information. see http://www.narrabri.nsw.gov.au/files/1777/File/Museum_Brochure_2004.pdf Note that the society have a card file and this is not just BDM but also has the little things that bring history to life like poems about local identities and places. Of course I did not have any records with me but the very helpful volunteer looked up a person for me who's death was registered in Narrabri and found that he had an inn and store in a locality north of narrabri, he played the fiddle and that he was robbed by a bushranger and then joined the trooper in chasing the bushranger. Also that after his death The Bank of NSW register of accounts (with signatures of customers) shows his account was taken over by his wife then son (who's birth or marriage or death is not registered in NSW or Qld.) Plus she gave me the cemetery location of his grave and the bad news that the methodist(?) church from where he was buried bunt down taking the church registers with it. I think they have copies of the other church registers in the museum(?) The Gaol is a brilliant place for archives the day was hot outside but the cell which houses the collection was quite temperate. A thought : was the transcription correct of the headstone for date of death?? State records has a few deceased estate files for John Morrisons in the 1880s and 1890s.
