    3. Hi All, I have "Never a Backward Step" the official book of the First 33rd battalion AIF. It lists all of the soldiers in that Battalion and their fate. The book sometimes lists next of kin as well as home towns and age on enlistment. The majority of them travelled to enlisted and train in Armidale NSW and generally came from New England and Northern NSW. The composition of the 4 companies in the battalion was generally as follows: A Company was composed of men from Armidale and Tamworth B Company was composed of men from Walcha, Uralla, Barraba, Bingara, and Manilla. C Company was composed of men from Narrabri, Moree and Inverell D company was composed of men from Glen Innes, Guyra and Tenterfield I am happy to do look-ups for anyone. If you lost track of a male family member from about 1915, it could be that they, like my grandfather, went to "do their duty". The battalion departed Australia in May 1916 aboard the HMAT Marathon. They served in France and suffered some of the heaviest casualties numbers of the war. While the loss was tragic, I am grateful to all these young men and am happy to help anyone who can claim them. Isabelle
