Hi Kerrie, He was not listed in the books and I could not find him on the Roll of Honor at the AWM. I found only 2 Shumacks on the Roll of Honor. I will include them here for you in case there is a connection SHUMACK, Pte. Bert, 3721. 56th Bn. Australian Inf. 9th Sept., 1918. Age 20. Nephew and adopted son of Richard J. and Mary Ann Shumack, of Dark Corner, New South Wales. IV. E. 10. Date of Death: 09/09/1918 SHUMACK, Pte. Henry, 2877. 36th Bn. Australian Inf. Killed in action 16th July, 1917. Age 42. Son of William and Jane Shumack; husband of Florence E. Shumack, of Eriban St., Gilgandra, New South Wales. Native of Coonamble, New South Wales. II. C. 30. Date of Death: 16/07/1917 If you think either of these belong to you then follow the link below. Enter the surname and in the conflict select First World War and search. There is much more information on these two there. http://www.awm.gov.au/database/roh.asp The other search you can try is the WW1 nominal role. "The nominal roll is a single alphabetic listing of the names (approximately 324 000 entries) of members of the AIF who served overseas during the 1914-18 War". http://www.awm.gov.au/database/133.asp Perhaps there is an alternate spelling to the name you could try. Good luck with your search. I have copied this to the list because they may be many out there who do not know of these search facilities. His name was Peter Shumack. His sister {my grandmother} was born and married at Coonabarabran, so I am assuming that Peter was also living in Northern NSW when he went to war. I dont know what battalion he was with. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
