Hi Marg and Listers, My name is Liz, I live in Toowoomba and I have just started looking for information about the McGuire/Macguire/Maguire family that were around Armidale in 1844, Boorolong late 1840s.. and Black Mountain area 1880. Details found so far are as follows: William Henry McGuire b 1804 ?? d 1888 at Black Mountain aged 84 yrs - Household Servant, then Shepherd married ?? at ?? Isabella Duncan Aitken b 1822 at ??? d 1872 at Armidale aged 50 yrs. They had 4 children (as far as I am aware, maybe others earlier as I havent had any luck with shipping records...) William Henry McGuire b 1846 Armidale , m 1876 d 1881 around Allora, Qld He married Ann/Annie Black. I am a direct descendent from this man.. Elizabeth Strang McGuire b 1848 Boorolong Alexander Aitken McGuire b 1849 Boorolong Jane M McGuire b 1857 My Christmas Wish would be to work out whether William and Isabella were married here in Aus, or how they arrived in Aus from where, and ended up in Armidale... I would also like to know if Black Mountain and / or Boorolong have cemeteries, or would William and Isabel be buried at St Peters? I am looking forward to learning more about the early history of the New England and hearing about other Listers' interests. Thanks in Anticipation of Santa!! Cheers! Liz
Hi Liz Yes there is a cemetery at Booralong it is beside the road near Tom'sGully. I have ancestors (Jones, Jackson & Deiderick) buried there, unfortunately they don't all have head stones. Tom's Gully was named after my gggrandfather Thomas Jones through whose property the creek ran.
