Hi Ann, There were no Borthwicks listed as having served in the 33rd Battalion. A quick search of the WW1 nominal role at the Australian War Memorial site produced 22 of them. 2 were killed in action and the rest returned to Australia. One of these however died of wounds. http://www.awm.gov.au/database/133.asp A search of the national Archives lists 32 Borthwicks. You gave me no first names do I could not search further for you. Of the 32 these 2 came from the NE area. It looks like they are father and son. * Borthwick Wilfred Paterson : SERN DEPOT : POB Inverell NSW : POE Inverell NSW : NOK F Borthwick William Murray * Borthwick William Murray : SERN 63717 : POB Tamworth NSW : POE Sydney NSW : NOK W Borthwick Lillian The address for national Archives is http://naa12.naa.gov.au/ You need to register to log on but that is free. Once registered you go to record search. In key words put Borthwick In Dates put 1914-1919 In reference Numbers put b2455 In search select all Hit search and up will come 32 records If any are yours, click on the control symbol hyperlink. That takes you to a screen where you have the option of requesting a digital copy. There is no charge for the copy to be scanned but takes about a month. Then once that is completed you can visit the site again and a complete service record will be available for you to access. There is a wealth of information in a soldier's service record. Hope this helps. If I can do anything else for you, please let me know. I would be very grateful for any BORTHWICK details in your book. I am doing a world one name study but my own Borthwick family was from the New England area.
