    1. RE: The TICKLE Family
    2. Gary Johnson
    3. Hello Dayle There is a book where the TICKLEs; George, Mary and their family are mentioned on numerous pages and is an excellent reference for the TICKLE family history. To give a bit of an idea, George is mentioned in 19 pages. The book is "Terrible Vale- No Time Like The Past" by Elizbeth Gardiner. It is a history of the New England grazing run between 1830 and 1940, of about 200 pages. Not sure on where you live but your library may have, or can obtain a copy for you. If you are interested in buying a copy then to assist you: The publishers were DSAMC Education P/L, South PO Box 81, South Tamworth, NSW 2340. Phone: 02 6765 8738 or Fax 02 6765 2500. The book cost me back in 2001, $37 with postage. Failing that, a letter to the Uralla Council may reveal Elizabeth's address. Or, someone on this list may have the address for you? Good Luck. Cheers Gary _________________________________________________________________ REALESTATE: biggest buy/rent/share listings http://ninemsn.realestate.com.au

    2. Dayle Shafer
    3. I have just joined this mailing list, so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Dayle, and I am currently researching the Tickle family, who lived in the Uralla area. Parents were George Tickle (1818 - 1880) & Mary (nee Hill) Tickle (1818 - 1887) & their twelve children Anne (1840 - 1900) George (1843 - 1920) Mary (1844 - 1919) Henry (1846 - 1905) Elizabeth (1848 - 1942) James (1850 - 1896) My Line Catherine (1852 - 1936) William (1854 - ?) Martha ( 1856 - 1936) Edward (1858 - 1861) Frederick (1861 - 1932) Rose ( 1862 - 1935) During my research recently, I have come across an address on the NSW Electoral rolls " Kentucky R.S.S." I know where Kentucky is however, can anybody explain what the abbreviation R.S.S. stands for. Kind Regards Dayle

    3. Hi Warren, A suggestion .. do a Google Search for NE Cemeteries. I can't tell you the web site, but there is one which lists the country burials .. not a lot of detail, but more than on the NSW BDM index I have found. You might strike it lucky. 1. Black Creek/Ware Devil
    2. VICKI and Denis
    3. Hello List I am a new member and this is my first posting. The names I am interested in from this area are CROTHERS & BOUVENG. In particular, at the moment, I am trying to locate a couple of places which I believe may be in the Tamworth area. In 1874 an Alicia Crothers who was 3 years and 6 months old, died at "Ware Devil" and she was buried at Black Creek. Her mother, Jane Crothers nee Downey, registered her death at Tamworth. In 1873, Jane's husband, William, had died at a young age at Merriwa and left Jane with three children. The family had been living at Llangollen, Cassilis but I am assuming that after the father died they may have lived with relations possibly in the Tamworth area. Jane later married William Rowland at Murrurundi in 1879. This was where her family, the Downeys, came from. Does anyone know of any Crothers in the area at that time and does anyone know of Black Creek and/or Ware Devil. I obtained the "Ware Devil" from a transcription agent and I am beginning to wonder if the name was transcribed correctly. Vicki

    1. Flight to the Southland (early days in New England area)
    2. Maureen
    3. Hi again, I just wanted to mention to the list, I have just finished reading a book by Warren Keats OAM about the early days in the New England area. Warren was a history teacher and has done a great deal of research in writing this book. It documents the story of the life of Ebenezer Keats and his wife Sarah Davenport and their early struggles in Australia. I read the book and thought it would generate a lot of interest on this list as it tells of a number of the early families in the Inverell area. I sat up and took notice when it mentioned Francois and Mary Girard who are connected to my line through my uncle. It brings in a lot of factual information from the time as well as mentioning many of the local identities of that era. I found it a really good read, and thought I would just share it with the list. I met Warren whilst researching my Pratt/Newstead lines. I have encouraged him to sign up to this list which he did today. He started up the Lower Tweed Heads Historical Society and was awarded the Order of Australia for his efforts. He has unlimited knowledge on the different identities of the New England area in the early days and is happy to share his knowledge, he has spent countless years on his research. His brother Norman wrote the book Wollumbin, which is now held in most Historical Societies. Anyhow just thought I would share that with you. Cheers Maureen
