    3. Thank you Marg for sending us your favourite websites. I checked out each one and could you believe that I think I found my husband's gggg grandfather on the medical pioneers listing. I knew that he was a doctor, and noticed it written on his headstone in Campbell Hill Cemetery, Maitland when we were fossicking about there. Dr William EVANS was born abt 1779 at Monmouthshire, Wales and died 30.7.1860 at "Bellvue" , East Maitland. He married in 1809 in London to Mary Anne KIRK and their first child Evan William EVANS was born 1811 at Newcastle, NSW This was about all I knew up until now. The website http://www.medicalpioneers.com/ states that William was a ship's surgeon on many convict ships: He first arrived in 1809 on the "Indespensable". Further trips on "Sir William Bensley", "Bencoolen", "Hindostan", "Asia II", "Sir Godfrey Webster", "Layton I", "Lady of the Lake", "Larkins", "Southworth" and "Earl Grey". His wife arrived in Australia in 1810, they settled in Newcastle in 1811, and he retired in 1822 So it sort of all fits. Does anyone have any further information that they could add to any of this? If so, I would appreciate it very much, many thanks Jo ----- Original Message ----- From: "MargM" <genknut@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-NEW-ENGLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 16 January, 2006 3:01 AM Subject: [NE] Interesting web sites > These are just a few from my favourites >

    1. Strelitz - Armidale and Sydney
    2. Neil
    3. Hello all I am looking for information on two brothers, Paul Strelitz and Richard Michel Strelitz (alias Streletz or even Stressit, or Stiltz), who went from W.A. to NSW during WWI. They had arrived in W.A. in the 1890s Goldrush (from where I haven't yet ascertained) and started trading as Strelitz Bros, importers and merchants at Fremantle. They acted as Consuls for various European countries. Richard probably arrived in WA around 1894/95 and Paul about 1896. Paul seemed to leave WA for periods in the 1890s/1900s on business. Richard Strelitz Richard Strelitz married Bessie Solomon at Albany, WA in 1897 and before 1906 they had children Olga (1898), Norman Richard (1901), Dudley (1902) and Eric Paul (1904) born around the Fremantle area (but they may have had more after 1905). From the NSW BDM Registry Historical Index Search 1788 - 1975 it appears that Richard Michel Strelitz (son of Maurice and Hanna) and his wife Bessie Blanche Strelitz both died at Mosman in 1958. Their daughter Olga Strelitz (?unmarried) died at N. Sydney in 1957. Their son Dudley Strelitz married at Armidale in 1928 to Alice L. Norton and in 1929 their other son Norman Richard Strelitz married Florence E. Chapman, also at Armidale. Norman Richard Strelitz died in 1966 at Armidale. According to the National Archives' RecordSearch, Dudley Strelitz enlisted in the Australian military (?RAAF) in 1939 at Armidale. Paul Strelitz According to the NSW BDM Registry Historical Index Search 1788 - 1975 Paul Strelitz married Rosalie Conway at Sydney in 1897. They had a daughter Irene Vara Strelitz at Fremantle, WA in 1900. The NSW BDM Registry Historical Index Search 1788 - 1975 shows that Paul Strelitz died in 1962 at Sydney aged 94 (?Rose Bay) and that his wife Rosalie died at Woollahra in 1946. I am interested in tracing any descendants of this family and tracking down any obituaries or other records. They appear to be Germans (?possibly Jewish). The National Archives' RecordSearch retrieves quite a few hits for them, but the files are located in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth (I've checked the Perth ones). Some of them are intelligence files and the ones in Perth include accusations from the public that they were into espionage and taking photos of military importance at Fremantle!!. Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated. Neil Perth
