I'm looking for any SUTHERLAND descendants, particularly originating from Walcha in the 1850s. The family arrived over a period of 7 years between 1849 and 1856 from Fife in Scotland. The second and especially the third generation left the area. We are having a reunion in October and I'd like to make contact with as many as possible. Some lines have 'disappeared'. I know there are still some with female lines in the area, so hope to find some here. Associated names for the 2nd and 3rd generations of SUTHERLAND marriages originating in the New England area are: BERRY BRIDGE EGAN FARDELL FENERTY FRANCIS GOODWIN HANSON HATCH HAYDEN HERON HOLDER HOY HUNTER JONES KELLY LISLE McMILLAN OGILVIE RODEY SCOTT SMITH STEER SUTHERLAND TICKLE WEBB WINTERS WOOD WRITE Lynette Begg P.O. Hi Carol I went through our Joseph Wright data base, well over 5,000 names so far. While there are plenty of Maher's listed with our Wright ancestors, your Margaret is not listed, so it may be reasonable to assume she is not connected to us.. Our Joseph Wright was a first fleeter convict, arriving in Port Jackson in 1788 on the "Scarborough". His daughter Sarah Wright born in colon, married Robert Hobbs Jnr also born in colony, son of Robert Hobbs convict who arrived in Port Jackson with the Third Fleet on the Active in 1791. Hence our Wright/Hobbs and Maher connection. Kindest regards Maureen & Brian Hobbs ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Dale" <coradsl@tpg.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-NEW-ENGLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 4:37 PM Subject: [NE] Fallon Family > Dear List, > > Looking for any descendants and researchers of the family of Edward > FALLON, who married Margaret Maher, 1855 Muswellbrook. Hi, I'm new to this list and I'm trying to find the decendants of : Oliver Smith born 1887 at Wyong Creek Married 1917 at Ryde NSW to Annie Hadley (born Emmaville) Oliver died 1 april 1948 and was buried at Emmaville Cof E Cemetery Oliver owned a property called 'Arimpa' at Emmaville in the early part of last century. Children: John Hadley Smith born 1919, I believe John took over the property after his father's death and he died at Emmaville in 1971. Shirley J Smith ( not sure of birth date) I believe Shirley was a school teacher although I can't find any record of her marriage. I would love to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this family or their descendants. Regards Cecily Smith Brisbane
Dear List, Looking for any descendants and researchers of the family of Edward FALLON, who married Margaret Maher, 1855 Muswellbrook. Two of their sons, John and Thomas, marry into my main family of interest. John Fallon married Margaret Gallagher on 2 September 1880 in Tamworth. John Fallon was the son of Edward Fallon and Margaret Maher and was born in 1856 at Patricks Plains. John was also the brother of Thomas Fallon who married Julie's niece, Margaret Fogarty. John Fallon died in 1912 at Tamworth and it is believed that Margaret died in 1908 in Tamworth. Any help would be appreciated Carol Dale
For your info .....copied from the NSW SE mailing list For many years now librarians have been able to search the national database provided by the National Library of Australia, to discover which books are held by which library (to put it simply!) In late February a public version, accessible to all, was made available. http://librariesaustralia.nla.gov.au takes you to a search screen for the new service. The national database (the Australian National Bibliographic Database) lists over 40 million books, maps, pictures, microfilm, newspapers and more, in over 800 Australian libraries. Where the libraries know about a free online version of an item, you'll be able to click through from the catalogue record to the item. In other cases there's a list of libraries which hold the item, and you can click on the library name to find out more about that library. There are also links to online bookshops, and to loan and copy services. There is more information about Libraries Australia at http://www.nla.gov.au/librariesaustralia/ and you can read the full press release about the new service at http://www.nla.gov.au/pressrel/2006/la-launch.html The National Library also provides PictureAustralia (http://www.pictureaustralia.org) which many of you will already know, and is now harvesting images from the Flickr site, to which anyone can add images. Go to http://www.pictureaustralia.org/Flickr.html to learn more about how you can upload images of people, places and events which can then be selected for PictureAustralia. Since this facility was made available a few months ago over 2000 images have been loaded by members of the public, on subjects as diverse as an old tobacco farm at Myrtleford in Victoria, Australia Day celebrations, a surf carnival at Cronulla, as well as some scans of old photos of historic interest. I am researching any of these names in the Glen Innes and surrounding areas: Stapleton, Ledger, Grinsell, Tickle, Grob, Duckworth, O'Hara, Hartmann, Rees. My primary interest is the Grinsell and Ledger families but the others all are connected by marriage and I would love to follow up on them. I lived in Glen Innes back in the late 60's and went to school with classmates with the above surnames. Would love to find a connection! If anyone on this list actually lives in Glen Innes I would like to hear from you! regards, -- ~*Judie*~ from the land-down-under, but now living in Maine, USA!! http://www.paperbackswap.com/
Hi, I have just joined this group and I would like to tell you a bit about my family. Firstly, I used to be a member of this group about a year ago but I haven't had the net connected so I need to do some catch up. The names I am looking for are mainly Sherden (Sheridan) from inner Sydney area or Newcastle originally, Newton from inner Sydney area or Ballarat Vic originally, Smith inner Sydney namely Waterloo and Redfern and Cunningham from Inverell area. My great grandmother Blanche Cunningham is a desendant from the Eather/Heather family of Windsor/Hawkesbury area. I really would like to find out more information about these families so if anyone can help me please I would love to hear from you shartega@unwired.com.au Michele.
Hi List, Looking for a LINDA JONES that I have previously made contact with but emails are now bouncing back. If you know Linda can you ask her to email me please. Thanks Wendy Stewart
Is anyone looking at the STUART family of NSW? John Patrick & Elizabeth Isabella (Aitken) 1937 - 1907 Would like to hear from you Thanks, Wendy
Thanks so much to those that responded - and so quickly. I was sure they were siblings and it basically looks like they are. They all married McIvers who were also siblings. Thanks again Charlotte
Does anyone on the list have access to the CD that lists NSW births later than 1905? I am looking for three births: Brenton - Ray Lesie born in 1909 in Frederickton Brenton - Vera May Brenton - Muriel Pearl I suspect that they are siblings - but can't be sure. Regards Charlotte
Thank you to everyone who offered advise on finding death location of JOHN DOYLE and ELIZA BRIDGET O'NEILL/NEIL. Other names associated with their son, JOHN BARTHOLOMEW DOYLE (Jack Doyle of Dubbo) and his 8 daughter's marraiges are DICKERSON, HUXLEY, WILLIAMS, WELLS, KNIGHT, CARTER, COONEY. Should anyone come across them in their research I would be forever grateful. Many thanks Colleen
Dear List, I am updating all my Fogarty and related family histories and am interested if anybody is researching or has information on the following: a. Thomas POWER was born in 1841 in Mullinavat, Kilkenny, Ireland. There are two deaths of a Thomas Power, with parents Patrick and Margaret listed on the NSW BDM site, these are Thomas P, 1898, Bourke and Thomas F 1913, Balmain. There are also two marriages listed for a Thomas Power in the Tamworth area, one to Mary GALVIN in 1881 and one to Mary McCAFFREY in 1874 b. John POWER was born in 1843 in Mullinavat, Kilkenny, Ireland. There are two marriages on the NSW BDM site that may be this John. One to Sophia HARTLEY in 1875 in Tamworth and one to Rosanna WOODS in Maitland in 1861. There is one death of a John Power, parents unknown in Warialda in 1898 that may be a possibility. c. Hannah POWER was born in 1845 in Mullinavat, Kilkenny, Ireland. Given there is an Annie who was witness to the marriage of John Fogarty to Mary Power in 1863, Hannah may have been known by that name. There is a marriage of an Annie Power to Samuel G.L PRYKE in Tamworth in 1866 that is a possibility. Regards, Carol Dale
