Dianne St Peters is the Presbyterian church in Inverell it is located in Vivian Street .. not sure of the date but it is the second church of this denomination and most probably post 1876.. the earlier one was a timber building on another site. I am not aware of any churches in or having been in Campbell Street the Church of England St Augustine's in Rivers Street is also the second church of that denomination and the earlier building is next to the current church and is used as a church hall and yes St Peters is the Anglican cathedral in Armidale Camilla
Second thoughts- It now occurs to me, Dianne, that as your 1876 marriage precedes the 1878 church in Inverell, St Peter's, as mentioned by Sharon, probably does refer to Armidale, as St Peter's is the Anglican Cathedral there for that diocese. Judy.
The Anglican Church in Inverell, whose photo appears on the net, dates from 1878, is in Rivers Street, and is St Augustine's. This is the only one listed in the white pages for the town. According to the web site at www.inverell.itsyou.info there is a second Anglican Church in Inverell, whose name is not given, in Campbell Street. I should think it most unlikely, however, that this one would also date from the 19th century. The Diocesan Registry at Armidale (P.O.Box 198, Armidale, NSW 2350 or phone 02 6772 4491) should be able to tell you. HTH Judy. Hello Dianne, I am not a local but I have two aunts who were married at St Augustine's C/E, Inverell during the 1960's. My great grandparents married there in 1890. This is the only one I can help you with. There was a St Peters Church of England at Armidale that I know of. Regards, Sharon Bagnall. Hi Earlier today I asked if anyone knew if St Peters Church Of England was still standing in Inverell? SKS on this list did point me to a photo on a website, unfortunately all it says is Anglican Church Late 1878. I am hoping that someone on this list may be a local of Inverell and can tell me the names of the current Anglican Churches in Inverell and the dates of these current buildings. Thankyou. Regards, Dianne

My last contact was a couple of years ago, Marg, no email address known then. I visited them at Calala Cottage in Denison Street but their letterhead asked for all correspondence to be addressed to P.O.Box W199, Tamworth 2340. Probably hasn't changed. Many thanks to all who have replied - I have a really busy year at work but will somehow manage to to take a week off for a research trip to Glen Innes, so the contact info is very helpful, thank you! I have only ever passed through New England with very brief stops, so I'm looking forward to getting to know the area better. Cheers Steve in Brisbane
Steve it would be worth contacting Eve Chappell at the Glen Innes and District Historical Society before you go to Glen Innes at gleninneshistory@northnet.com.au they have an amazing collection including information about individuals and properties .. there is no FHG at Glen but the Inverell and District Family History group familyhistory@northnet.com.au have info about Furracabad which is between Inverell and Glen Innes .. not sure where the statistics that said Furracabad has 7,000 people ... the Glen Innes and Severn Shire would probably be pushing it to have that many people Camilla ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven Sims" <steven.sims.a@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-NSW-NEW-ENGLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 20, 2006 10:14 AM Subject: Re: [NE] Furracabad / Furrucabad near Glen Innes > Thanks Jenny, > > I had imagined a fairly sparse rural area (as it probably was in 1800's) - > but population of 7000+ makes it sound more like a suburb of Glen Innes. Steve, Furracabad is south west of Glen Innes & was taken up in 1839 by R.R. MACKENZIE. Wellingrove is to the North west. It is all magnificent pastoral country. They have a wonderful local & family history centre in the old Hospital at Glen Innes, which would be well worth checking out when you visit. Steve, A friend of mine lives in G.I and I asked him about this place. His reply was: " its just west of glen innes and Furracabad road starts in Glen Innes near the saleyards, lovely area, named after a cattle property by the same name." Thanks Jenny, I had imagined a fairly sparse rural area (as it probably was in 1800's) - but population of 7000+ makes it sound more like a suburb of Glen Innes. I think from the govt website I have seen but can't find at the moment, it's about 7km out of town. Looks like I need to make a visit, sure to find some more info and get some good photos! The hard part of course will be to find land records to locate the family farm, without being able to first visit NSW archives in Sydney. Hopefully Glen Innes FHS will be able to help.
