I'm wanting to contact John HEAD if he is still on the list. I exchanged emails with him several years ago and I would like to re-establish contact about a common family link. Hi Lynette I am new to the list and re you posting: "I have the following surnames that 'started' in the New England area..........., Hoping there are some connections on this list today." I have a interest in a Joe HAYDEN from the Curlewis/gunnedah/armidale area, but have no details (just photos) at this stage. He was a friend of my father and aunt ( surname BARTLEY). Also one of my uncles married a WINTERS in Inverell c 1922. Though I believe her family came from the Bathurst area. Hello Lynette There is no headstone transcription for Edith CARTER, at Manilla Cemetery, or Tamworth, or Boggabri. She may have been buried without a headstone being erected. Regards Alan
Hi Lynette, Have a look at Manilla Museum http://manillamuseum.org.au/index.html or Tamworth FHS http://www.tamworthfamilyhistory.org/main.html or Manilla Council Ph 6785 1304 Anglican Church 6785 1112 Catholic Church 6785 1094 Presbyterian Church 6785 1627 or Visitor Information Centre 6785 1627 - always have a wealth of local information for Family Histoians - if they don't have what you want they will refer you to someone who can help. Researching the SUTHERLANDs of Walcha. Some stayed in the New England area around Armidale and Tamworth while others spread out, some to the coastal areas, some to various parts of the Hunter Valley and some to Sydney and the Central Coast. Hi List, My name is Bill WHITE and I have just joined this List I am relatively new to researching families in NSW as most of my line comes from the Victorian Gold fields area. I have now moved on to look at my daughters husband's line so the Grandchildren have a frame of reference. The major initial focus is on the BRITTON family who first appear around the 1890's in Quirindi area. I have some burials indicated in surrounding cemeteries, Werris Creek, Gunnedah and Willow Tree (information kindly provided by Liz Pritchard who may be a list member. I also suspect that there are more connections through Murrurundi. I must admit that I am a little bit lost in this area - I live in Cairns - and would appreciate any advice or assistance to help me find the trail as the on-line BDM list provides a lot of options and leads but at the moment I am confused.. Starting point is William John BRITTON who married Mary Josephine O'HALLORAN in Quirindi in 1898. Kind regards Bill in Cairns.
Hi Glynis, The Campbell St. location seems to be a bit of a red herring - i just found it listed on an Inverell website (in addition to St Augustine's.) Baptisms, marriages, etc. pre-dating St Augustine's would most likely be carried out by a minister going around the district from some central church. In this case St Peter's, Armidale. Other churches did the same thing, and I have some early Anglicans elsewhere baptised by a Methodist minister on circuit because he happened to be the first one to arrive there. There was a similar discussion to this on the Hunter Valley list recently concerning early Hexham and Christ Church, Newcastle. The Campbell Street location confuses me. I am an Inverell local. In this area is the Library, the back if the police station, the back of the post office, the gentleman's club, but no church. The old Austral Band hall (which is also in that area) *I think* was used as a church in its long career - and MAY have been the anglican place of worship prior to St Augustines. I don't know if there was a minister specifically for Inverell at that time or perhaps he travelled from Armidale. Camilla who contributes to this list would be able to give a definitive answer.
