    1. [NE] T.E.O.WARD of Armidale
    2. Cameron
    3. Hello Listers, Could a kind soul please help me with a vanishing family? In the 1880s, Thomas Edmund Oliver WARD was an Ironmonger living in Armidale NSW. His parents were Thomas B. and Jane Ward (although query whether they were also in Armidale). On 29 March 1880, young Thomas drove south to Singleton to marry Jane Eliza GODDARD. They returned to Armidale and had four children: 1.. Irene A. WARD b. 1881 at Armidale 2.. Mabel B. WARD b. 1882 at Newtown 3.. Blanche E. WARD b. 1885 at Armidale 4.. Percy E. D. WARD b. 1888 at Armidale Then Thomas died at Armidale in 1896. I have searched to find what became of his widow, Jane Eliza (who survived for many years, as her name is shown on her mother's Death Certificate) and the four youn children. However, I can find no trace of any of them. Does anyone know of this family? Best wishes Sybil Cameron

    3. Dear all, I am an Australian woman working for the Chinese state media in Beijing! A long way from Glen Innes where my great-great-grandfather, Patrick Heron Henderson, settled (and ran a local flour mill). He was previously a surveyor and surveyed the New England area. I am descended from his and his wife Maria's daughter, Kate, who had an illegitimate son, my Grandfather William Carmichael Henderson, to William Carmichael (who was later the manager of the Glenn Innes Gas Works). The child was raised by Kate's brother George and his wife Mary. I would be VERY interested in hearing from ANYONE with ANY connections to anyone in these families! Thanking you, Yvonne Gluyas. 2. Susie Zada
    3. Hi Folks, Just to let you know my Surnames of Interest in this area ... Bernard NAUGHTEN and Mary / Maria HUNT came from Strokestown, Co Roscommon, IRE, in 1840 on the ship Crusader. They spent some time in Grafton before moving to Armidale c. 1856. Bernard NAUGHTEN (although illiterate) was twice mayor of Armidale. He was also the licensee of the Royal Hotel in Armidale. Bernard's daughter, Margaret, married John MURRAY in Grafton. John was a probationary convict. The MURRAY's also moved to Armidale with John later also becoming the publican at the Royal. After the deaths of Bernard and Mary NAUGHTEN in 1876, and John & Margaret MURRAY in 1875 and 1877, the family split up with most of my branch on the MURRAYs ending up in Maitland, Singleton and numerous other areas of NSW! I'd be pleased to hear from anyone with connections .......... Susie Z

    3. Hi, I am researching the WARNER and WILLIAMS family. Members of both families lived in the Tamworth and Armidale areas. I am trying to locate all descendants of Lieutenant Jonathan WARNER [NSW Veteran Army] and his wife Mary Dunkley arrived in the colony in 1826 on the "Orpheus". Warners Bay was named after Jonathan Warner, where he settled. I lived in Tamworth for many years - my father Leslie Oliver Warner, one of thirteen - the children of Edwin Warner [the grandson of Jonathan] and Martha Pankhurst. I am also trying to trace the Pankhurst line. Anyone with any information I would love to hear from you. Many of the Warners lived and worked in the New England area, as did the Pankhurst family. I am also trying to locate all the descendants of George WILLIAMS [free settler] arrived in Sydney in 1811. He was a merchant and printer [Sydney Gazette] in the early colony. He was govt printer in Cape Town S. Africa also. I am specifically trying to locate members of the Williams family in the Gunnedah area. Regards, Annie QLD

Hi Nick News sure travels fast as this list is hardly a day old ! > Would someone give me a short idea of what area is and is not include in New England. I only added that to the welcome message a short time ago ! A rough "border" with main towns will suffice. Then I can reference my map >to see what is included. The inland highway to Brisbane , Queensland from Newcastle , NSW is called the New England Highway (Hway # 15 ). The main 2 centres of the New England region are the cities of Armidale and Tamworth which are approx 150ks apart Armidale is a university city as is the home of the University of ..... New England . Tamworth is the home of country music in Australia A www.google.com search will bring up a great many web sites For Tamworth inc NSW as there are a few Tamworths about in the world > I've got many families that came from Germany to Australia in the 1850's.
