    3. Hi Robert One of my side-line interests (for the moment) is my husband's family tree. He is a descendant of Alice Ann GRANTHAM born. 27 Oct 1810 died 9 Jan 1891. She married Frederick Joseph HARVEY and their daughter Sarah Ann HARVEY married William PHILP at Dungog NSW. Sarah died at Uralla 3rd May 1915. I really don't know anything about the Grantham Family, as I'm still pretty tied up in my own research. I am new to your list. I am attempting to learn more about my ancestors mentioned above. My gggrandfather was John Marshall. He married Mary Wilson in 1862 at `Wellingrove' via Glen Innes. Mary's sister Margaret Wilson married Johan Kroger / John Creer. Story has it that both John Marshall and Johan Kroger and a third person John Pascoe all jumped ship together. I have not been able to confirm this although I have found individuals of these names (except Kroger) jumping ship but not from the same ship (as family have been led to believe). If anyone is researching these names I would love to hear from you. Kate Brial

    3. Hi Charlotte Yep, had been doing that, got through the Births and Deaths, but when I tried the Marriages, it refused to let me enter any dates at all. (actually I search in 9 yr batches) Have since rebooted, and it seems to have fixed the problem just wondered if anyone else had had the same problem...it is a new one for me. Was just curious......if I have to reboot..so be it....!!! With the Gremlins that live within my PC want to behave this way...fine!!!.......lol Thanks for for your reply. <<<I've never had this problem but it's worth remembering you can only search in 10 year batches - and births can only be searched up to 1945. 3. Great news - I have already included parts of that area in my research queries as the "Armidale District" was my territory as a PMG Technician. But it also included Walgett and went up to Tenterfield. 2. Can anyone provide some details on the following most likely from the gravestone at Barraba. James Joseph Charlton died 9/6/1926 There was some controversy on his death probate on the will was contested by a wife and child although non recorded on NSW BDM and then neither was his first marriage to a Rebecca Culley in Gunnedah 18/3/1877. Probably the gravestone may provide an answer or 2, maybe the "wife" buried beside him. Maybe someone has the story. All I have is family rumours. Grandma so hated her father she never referred to by name other than JJ, on her mother death certificate she put his correct name as husband. 1. RE: [NE] Lookup WW1 Soldiers
    2. Isabelle Alaban
    3. Hi Ann, There were no Borthwicks listed as having served in the 33rd Battalion. A quick search of the WW1 nominal role at the Australian War Memorial site produced 22 of them. 2 were killed in action and the rest returned to Australia. One of these however died of wounds. http://www.awm.gov.au/database/133.asp A search of the national Archives lists 32 Borthwicks. You gave me no first names do I could not search further for you. Of the 32 these 2 came from the NE area. It looks like they are father and son. * Borthwick Wilfred Paterson : SERN DEPOT : POB Inverell NSW : POE Inverell NSW : NOK F Borthwick William Murray * Borthwick William Murray : SERN 63717 : POB Tamworth NSW : POE Sydney NSW : NOK W Borthwick Lillian The address for national Archives is http://naa12.naa.gov.au/ You need to register to log on but that is free. Once registered you go to record search. In key words put Borthwick In Dates put 1914-1919 In reference Numbers put b2455 In search select all Hit search and up will come 32 records If any are yours, click on the control symbol hyperlink. That takes you to a screen where you have the option of requesting a digital copy. There is no charge for the copy to be scanned but takes about a month. Then once that is completed you can visit the site again and a complete service record will be available for you to access. There is a wealth of information in a soldier's service record. Hope this helps. If I can do anything else for you, please let me know. 1. [NE] Seek History on Bald Blair Station
    2. Hello to all on this new Mail list. I seek some historical information on "Bald Blair" near Armidale. The reason I seek is that I descend from the Athertons of Atherton Tablelands etc in Queensland. According to the family history the Athertons left Blackrod, Lancashire in 1844 and left ship "Briton" in Newcastle after a short stop at Sydney. Appears they were a family of some wealth as arrived at "Bald Blair", but how and when they acquired and arrived is not that clear, as nothing is said in the book about the 1844-1856 years. 1856 a couple of the sons (James and John) overlanded sheep to a new property "Rosewood" near Mt Morgan, Qld. It would appear the rest of the family followed shortly after. The family then owned various properties around Mareeba, Mackay, Clifton etc. Along with others started the Plane Creek Sugar Mill in Sarina (now owned by CSR). The information I seek is. a.. Where is Bald Blair exactly? b.. Is there any history as to ownership around the 1850's? c.. Is there any local history in regards to the Atherton's? I am quite to supply the small amount of detail I have re the family in Armidale thus we may eventually get a history of the Atherton family in New South Wales.
