    3. Bev, I was intrigued by your post so I checked my NSW BDM CD's and still did not find an entry for George VENESS. It could be possible that Mary had George before she married Daniel and then he was brought up as Daniel's child. I have a couple of instances like this in a couple of branches. I did however find the following entries which may be of interest to you. Marriage: Mary J CUSH 1865 SAMUEL Edward VENEP (say Samuel and Daniel out loud with a strong accent) Tamworth 3269 Birth: Name: CUSH Mary J Year: 1842 Parents: John/Susanna Denomination: Roman Catholic Place of Reg: Newcastle Reg No: V18422707 162A Also the following siblings for the above Mary. CUSH Margaret 1844 John/Susan Roman Catholic East Maitland/Maitland/West Maitland V18443040(8) 121B CUSH John 1848 John/Susan Roman Catholic Singleton V18481868 67 CUSH Thomas 1850 John/Susan Roman Catholic Singleton V18501869 67 I also found on the Sate Records site the following entry for assisted immigrants. VENESS George 26 Harbinger 1849 2135,2459 VENESS Mary S 25 VENESS John G 1 Should read across as surname, name, age, ship, year, reel number. Cheers, Kate Cunningham Wellington NZ

    3. Hi Listers, I am new to the list - live in Qld and am researching VENESS in the Manilla/Tamworth area. My Great Aunt Lily Gregg married George A VENESS in 1894 at Boulia in Qld. George's occupation was Mail Contractor. Children, all born in Manilla, Elsie Maud 1895, Cyril Arthur 1896 and Doris 1897. Lily died in 1900. George "Arthur" VENESS in the family bible, but "Albert" on the Marriage Certificate, was born c1869 s/o Daniel Edward VENESS and Mary Jane CUSH. There does not appear to be an entry for his birth in the BDM index for NSW. His siblings and their spouses, as recorded in the BDM index for NSW - Edward J born 1866 died 1933. Maude H born 1871. Arthur Thomas born 1873 married Isobel H BUSHELL 1897. Harold C born 1877 married Muriel GASCOIGNE 1910. Charlotte Emily born 1879. Henry William born 1881 married Minnie FITZGERALD 1910. Norman Stephen D born 1883 died 1892. Beatrice M L born 1886. There is a marriage for a George A VENESS and Mary E COUGHLAN in 1906, registered at Tamworth. Is this a second marriage for my George A VENESS? Is there anyone on the list researching this family, who could confirm this for me. Looking forward to making connections with other Veness researchers. Bev Kronk

    3. Hello Julie I have John Hockley in my family tree, although in my database his father is recorded as Edwin Hockley who married Hannah Smith. John married (not mine but) my first cousin's g-g-grandfather's first cousin, Sarah Edmonds on 26 June 1883 at Armidale, St. Peter's Church of England, NSW. They had some children, then after Sarah died, John married my, and my first cousin's, g-g-g-grandmother's sister, Maria Turner, in 1902 at Armidale. Regards Alan [email protected] Alan Eade

    3. I am trying to trace relatives/descendants of Luther Ballard who lived in the Hunter Valley, Macleay, and Nambucca. There was onece an page on the internet entitled "Pat Gore's Genealogy Home Page" that apparently held some information about Mary Jane Ballard who married William Gore. That page seems to have disappeared - does anyone know how to contact Pat Gore? or have any information derived from that site? Another potential source of information about Luther's cousins in Maitland/Morpeth is Christine Mavin's book, "RIP - The Sanderson Family". Does anyone know of this book, where I could get a copy, or whether it has been indexed on any sites? All help appreciated. Peter Peterson

    1. [NE] Alfred and Mary Butler - Tamworth
    2. Patricia Smith
    3. Hello to the New England List! I am looking for descendants of Alfred and Mary Cecilia Lawler Butler, nee White, who married in Tamworth in 1890. Alfred was born in London and Mary in Ireland. Alfred owned a boot store in Peel Street which he continued to operate until shortly before his death in 1946. His obituary in the Northern Daily Leader mentions three sons (one of who was my grandfather) who had moved away from the district, and two daughters who still resided in Tamworth - a Mrs Roy King of Carthage Street and a Mrs E Hoban of 178 Marius Street. I am particularly looking for information about when and how Alfred Butler and Mary White immigrated to Australia, but would be interested in hearing from anyone who has any information about this couple or their descendants. 1. [NE] Gunnedah Parish Records
    2. This is long shot request as have exhausted all other possibilities including visiting and talking to people in the town where he died. Does anyone on the list have access to the Parish Records in Gunnedah, in particular Catholic Church records to 1880? I am searching for a marriage as follows. CHARLTON James Joseph CUGLEY or CULLEY Rebecca Date 18 March 1877 This is a last resort search, s they were Catholic but Presbyterian and Church of England and neither archives have them listed. Conclusion one draws is either marriage did not take place or this is only of those the travelling pastor failed to lodge. I am also investigating a death of a John Cugley, possibly Armidale or Uralla but cannot be 100%, no records anywhere once he set foot in Sydney although a young child (Rebecca Cugley) appears to have grown up in the New England or Central West of NSW. 3. Hi List, Just want to thank those people who have been kind enough to respond to my plight in relation to William Henry McGuire/Maguire/Macguire and Isabella Aitken I have been rather quiet lately due to my being busy with my lines, as opposed to my somewhat convict riddled husband's lines!! I have been busy chasing down every possible line I have to see if by chance I have any convict that I can claim of my own... plenty by marriage to husband, but none of my own... Until TONIGHT!!!! I have finally hit the Jackpot!! William Henry Maguire aged 31 could read and write - Presbyterian, a weaver and soldier was court martialled in Edinburgh on 21 January, 1835 for striking a sergeant. He received 14 yrs and 200 lashes (Lady Kennaway 2), was 5'7.5 inches - had a dark sallow and was a little pock pitted, brown hair and hazel eyes... My 3rd Great Grandfather - Bless Him!!! He married Isabella Duncan Aitken (cf Herald 1844) in 1845 Maitland, and somehow ended up in Armidale... I was at the Toowoomba Family History rooms tonight... despite a thunderstorm... and had to stop myself from doing a loud yeehaaa and a happy dance on the tabletops.. (see I have grown up!!) First thing my husband said to me - was - doesnt count if he was court martialled... LOL Like Hell!!! Anyway, just had to share my good news with the List! And - it has rained all night here in Toowoomba - so another great thing!!! Cheers! Liz
