    3. Hi Marie "Burindi Pastoral Company" runs the station now - Ph No. in www.whitepages.som.au <http://www.whitepages.som.au> It was previously owned by the SIMPSON family for many years. 3. Ally Hi, Noticed your mention of PHILLIPS / THOMAS. By any chance do you have a John Withiel THOMAS marrying Edith Withiel PHILLIPS (were they cousins) 1849-1850?? John and Edith had 8 children:- Twins ? Edith and Ernest b. Oct 1850; Irene b. June 1852; Lilias b. Feb 1854. Agernon (later Sir. Agernon); Lucie b. 1862. (married my grandfather's brother); Sydney (ancestor of the astronaut Andy) b. Aug 1864; Harold b. 1868. These dates could well be Christening dates. Can any lister give me a lead as to how to contact the currrent NSW government Department to see if he was one of the oldest surviving workers of that era. It would be great to make contact with anyone who may have worked in that Commmission all those years ago. Des Skelly Moorooka, Brisbane.

Can be akin to flogging a dead horse . The subject header is their advert but few comprehend that ! Must be hard for folk who subscribe in digest mode to get 1/2 dozen and often more emails, all with the same subject header I also try to get people to EDIT their replies and dont just add their comment to a complete email and send the lot back to the list You added yours to 3 complete emails . The whole lot gets archived Other soap box stuff : Typing in all lower case Typing in all capitals Using little punctuation Typing using scattered caps not for just surnames only Asking where to go to find something and not giving any clue as to their location etc etc ! Tis an imperfect world but a lovely sunny morning to go do some gardening ! Bye MargM New England List Admin

    1. RE: [NE] Changed thread, was No mail - now BDMs in NSW
    2. Lynette Begg
    3. Just wanted to say that it was 1856 when compulsory registration came to NSW. From then on, all BDMs were supposed to be recorded, but for the first few years it didn't necessarily happen. I've got an 1857 death which is only recorded in the church register, so instead of providing all the lovely details like parents names, place of birth, occupation, wife and children's names, etc, (plus cause of death of course) I've just got a date and place. Just looking at the BDM index simply gives the region of the registration. It isn't until you get the certificate that you find the exact location and township. Registration districts were rather wide so can be misleading as a reference. Also, people who lived a long way away might happen to have someone travelling to a different district on business who will register an event, and so you might find births in particular registered in 'different' districts to what you would expect. Sometimes also, place of death might not be at home and can be recorded in a different location to what you would expect, or like sometimes! Hope this helps. Lynette Begg P.O. 3. Hello all I was wondering if the name CYFFARTHA FARM rings a bell with anyone or comes up in any records. My greatgreat grandfather CHARLES WALSH died there in 1877 and his daughter gaves the address on her marriage certificate in 1881. He may have farmed it with his future son in law JOHN PERROTT. I believe it may have been in the CHERRY TREE HILL area. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks again for all the help received on this list. 3. Thanks Judy and Marg - I've been having huge problems with computer & power/landline interruptions...am in New England, despite my strange yahoo email address which I inadvertently was given by subbing to a yahoo UK group. I'll definitely check the archives, thanks v. much Judy. Re my searches for pioneer ancestors in New England: BRIDEKIRK/SULLIVAN: have only just found one branch in Inverell with various burials supplied by very kind NE List members, for which I'm grateful. Another BRIDEKIRK I'm trying to find more about is a great great uncle Everard Hercules BRIDEKIRK who apparently (only suggested by an elderly relo) was Postmaster at Hillgrove when it was a mining site, he was there circa 1901/02 when it was quite a thriving little area....this gr gr uncle was one of ten children born to Valentine BRIDEKIRK & Ann Rebecca IKIN of Clarencetown (nr Maitland) and is one of three sons who became Postmasters in NSW (& it is thanks to the Hunter List I've been able to find most of that family). My great grandfather was another Clarencetown Bridekirk son who also became a Postmaster. My great grandfather: Joseph Frederick BRIDEKIRK m Jane Helen TAYLOR at Clarencetown in 1885 Possibly Postmaster at Euston NSW Definitely Postmaster at Narrabri/Burwood/Moss Vale NSW Younger brother: Everard Hercules BRIDEKIRK m Rachel M. SPICER at Hillgrove, 1904 Son Clarence T.V. BRIDEKIRK born Hillgrove 1904 Family lore has it that he & Rachel had more children but as NSW Births only extend to 1905 I haven't been able to find any (yet). Clarence T. V. BRIDEKIRK m Dulcie HILDRED in Orange 1935 Would anyone know where I could go next with Postmasters in NSW to confirm this occupation... would there be any information about their service, duties & tenure ? I would think being a Postmaster in this timeframe & this location would involve more than handling mail, perhaps it was the local banking facility as well or sub. "paymaster" for the miners ? I'm also wondering whether there was a Church in Hillgrove or did these Hillgrove pioneers marry & have their children baptised/registered in Armidale..and were they buried in Armidale? Another New England BRIDEKIRK: Cyrus Spencer BRIDEKIRK m Edith M CROSBIE 1902 in Glen Innes. I have established this Bridekirk to be directly linked to the Inverell BRIDEKIRKs. His father was John Bridekirk and his mother Helen (nee?) Cannot find marriage details, however Cyrus BRIDEKIRK shows as dying in 1945 Ashfield Sydney. His Father John BRIDEKIRK is another son born to Overseer William BRIDEKIRK, Mother Ellen SULLIVAN...these pioneers' burials etc. have been provided by extremely generous NE List members & hopefully after my planned trip to Inverell I will be in a better position to post further to the List. Any researchers looking for N.E. SPICERs or CROSBIEs are more than welcome to make contact via this List. I've "kicked the ball" as hard as I can with N E ancestors, Marg.
