I am tracking the arrival from France of one Auguste LA FERRIERE known as FERRIF. He gave his birthplace as Rochelle / La Rochelle, France. A family Bible (now lost) gave the family name as LA FERRIERE. I know that there quite a number of French residing in Melbourne at this time (although have not seen actual census records) He was in Melbourne in South Yarra in 1860. His son Gustave FERRIF was born there in 1860. Auguste was 28 years of age at this time. I gather that Auguste may have already had a daughter named Blanche - by the same wife? or another? perhaps Clara's child taken his name - no birth record for Blanche FERRIF. I can find no evidence of his marriage to Gustave's Mother Clare [ex SMITH] from London, UK. either. The family later left Melbourne and worked in various towns throughout Victoria and NSW. They did live inArmidale for quite a period my paternal garndfather Joseph Henry FERRIF was born there. What I want is some assistance in finding Auguste's arrival in Australia - where ? when? I gather records exist for census and alien/foreign residents in Vic at that period but have not been able to view these. Many thanks for any help with my inquiry - in anticipation Gail (Ferrif) Griffin Mt Eden, Auckland, New Zealand.

Hello Listers When James TEYS married Rebecca OLDFIELD in 1859, he was leasing Boonanger in the Warialda district. Six of his children were born there Margaret Australia 1860 David August 1861 James Rowland 1863 Alexander 1865 Arthur Ernest 1868 Hilton May 1870 Margaret died and was buried there in1863.By 1872 the family had left there and were living at Yarraman on the Liverpool Plain where Wilfred John was born. Family lore has it that James feared for the safety of his family"as the natives were troublesome". Two more children were born at The Flags which may have had an inn on the property. Walter Charles 1876, reistered Tamworth Amy Emily 1878, registered Gunnedah Other properties that James supposedly owned or leased were Burgurah,Waroo,Thurrajai, Thromby, Massai,Bryon and Bunmo. Does anyone know if these properties still exist and where they are? How do I go about finding out when James held the leases, given that I live in Queensland?. The thing I particularly like to find out is if Margaret Australia's grave is still on Boonanger station. Many thanks Jan Ward
