    1. Orphanages
    2. Anne Maye
    3. Michael, There were two orphanages in Armidale that seemed to cater for children from as far as Inverell that I know of. One was St Josephs, the Catholic one and the other Coventry House, an Anglican one. Both are now closed. A couple of my relatives were in one of the Armidale ones when their mother died in childbirth. Anne Maye. ____________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 3. My mother was born in Armidale in 1928 - Yvonne Cross I have just been loooking over some notes we made of her early life there until 1940. Her best friend was - Corinne ?? she would love to meet her again. They also had a lot to do with the Hanna children, a local family involved in shop keeping. They lived near Nurse Austen in Markham St. Does anyone have any info on Nurse Austen or Nurse Dearing who were the local midwife's of the time. My grandfather was friends with Silas Burton. Does anyone know of these people, or have any further information that they could add to this? Many thanks, Jo

    3. Dear Anne, Many many thanks for this information, I certainly didn't have it! Ann Rebecca BRIDEKIRK is the IKIN link from Clarence Town Nr Maitland, Hunter Valley & is my Great x 3 Grandmother and as such would be classified as a Hunter Valley "pioneer family" member. She, along with many other incredible women of the era, suffered much tragedy & sadness in her life with a 7 y o daughter & her husband Valentine BRIDEKIRK both drowning in floodwaters & her brother-in-law dying in an accident...she cared for her remaining 10 children and her 3 small nieces (to her late brother-in-law & sister Jane Fras(z)er) & her grandchildren. She must have been a feisty little person to last till her 94th year! She also is sister-in-law to the Inverell Bridekirk clan, William & Ellen Bridekirk. Many thanks again for this info Anne, it's v. much appreciated. ps: how can I discover burial details at Rookwood such as this for Ann Rebecca ? Is it possible to find an Index for Rookwood on the Net or can someone be contacted by 'phone regarding Rookwood burials ? 3. Hi Colleen, Unfortunately I don't have anything on James KEATING other than the James Keating marriage to Ada BRIDEKIRK but would suggest you post for information on the KEATING line with the original poster Gary Johnson who is actively researching Bonnet but I just picked up his mention of "KEATING" as one of the family names he is also researching....so Gary would have more leads for your Keating research than me. I'm still sleuthing away for my BRIDEKIRKs & only have found the Inverell/Warialda links for them via this List and I need to research much more on them. Please post to Gary, Colleen, I've seen so many link-ups occurring this way on the Lists, it's quite amazing, With family history research, it really is a small, small world, bearing in mind the population was so small back then.
