Dear List, Seeking assistance locating the locality of Hanging Rock. The reference is from the NSW Government Gazette Feb 25, 1853 Which recorded a list of letters returned from the country and now lying in this office (GPO) unclaimed, addressed to persons residing in the Hunter River and Northern Districts. Hello Garry. Have you searched for it under the Geographical Names Board of NSW? Here is the URL for it: http://www.gnb.nsw.gov.au/name/search A search there gives 30 hits, with several of them being in the Hunter Area. Most of the hits are still quite vague, but I hope nevertheless that this might be of some at least limited assistance to you. Hi Garry, There are several places named Hanging Rock in NSW but the one of interest to you is most likely in the Tamworth regional Local Governement area, in the Parish of Parry County of Nundle >From this http://www.lands.nsw.gov.au/survey_mapping/parish_maps link to the NSW Dept of Lands select Search Facility, type NUNDLE in the Map Name, click on NUNDLE then the first Image ID & you will see Hanging Rock. When the map appears, change the size (at bottom of the screeen) to 640 x 480 for a larger image.
