    3. Hi Karen I had a look at 61 Frederick St to day, it is a house on the corner of Frederick and Coane St Merewether. I grew up not far from there and when I saw the house I remembered that people by the name of Newburn used to live there, in the late 1950's. The house has not changed from those years Something to consider the people you are researching may have been married in the house as a private residence and the Baptist minister came to marry them there. There was however a Baptist church in Merewether in the early 1900's according to my wife's almanac and there is still one in Merewether. I had family married in a family home in Hamilton in a period earlier than your research and they were married according to the rites of the Presbyterian Church by a Presbyterian Minister. I don't know why because both parties were Church of England, but she was expecting and the C of E Priest may have said no. Hope this helps Howard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Bamforth" <karentherese@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-Hunter-Valley-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2006 1:46 PM Subject: MEREWETHER / OCCUPATION > Hi, > > Does anyone know if the following address would have been a church? > > 61 FREDERICK STREET, MEREWETHER > > I have a marriage in 1921 that took place there & was after a photo of it > if it was a church. > The religion on the cert. says - BAPTIST > > Also, while I'm asking - > > does anyone know what the following occupation means = > > FIRELIGHTER > > this was in 1926 in WALLSEND > > Thanks in advance! > > Karen Bamforth. > karentherese@ozemail.com.au > > ______________________________
