G'day My name is Dan Howe, I am just over 60 years old, am a retired Fire Service Officer, and I live at Strathpine outside Brisbane. A little while back I was asked about my Grandfather, John Robert 'Jackie' HOWE. Whilst I had a fair knowledge of 'Jackie' HOWE himself, I found I had a very limited knowledge of my genealogy and that such as I did have was mainly derived from my childhood recollections of 'family' stories and gatherings. I also found that, because of my age and placement in my family [a late born son], all of my parent's siblings and most of my parents cousins, nephews and nieces were deceased by the time I started this research, as were all but one of my six siblings. I had little factual or documented information available in such family records as had been passed on to me. Since that time I have been able to identify the names and varying level of information for some 200+ direct descendants of my G.G.Grandfather Abraham HOWE [b. Abt 1810] and his wife Mary BENDEL [b. Abt 1810; m. Abt 1835] extending to their 4th Great-Grandchildren. Whilst the details of later members will be filled in as they become available, I have had little success in locating detailed information in respect to some of the early family members. I have established that John HOWE ['Jackie' HOWE's father] was born in 1835 at Jerry's Plains, New South Wales. I have been unable to locate further details relating to his birth, nor any details relating to the births, deaths, or marriage of his parents [Abraham and Mary]. I have not been able to establish if there were any other children from this or subsequent marriages of either of this couple. John HOWE ['Jackie's father] was married in Killarney, Qld on 23 Jan 1860 to Louisa STOKES [b. Abt 1835, England?]. The next two generations of this couple [John and Louisa] lived predominately in the Queensland central-west areas around Killarney, Warwick and Blackall. Later generations tended to migrate towards Brisbane and south-east Queensland. I would be grateful to anyone who could help me with details or research contacts concerning this tree, particularly in respect to its early members, eg were Abraham and Mary the first of the line in Australia - if not, who was; when and where were they born, married, and die; did they have other children, if so who, when and where; I would also be grateful for any information concerning John Robert 'Jackie' HOWE's siblings:- Louisa Victoria HOWE b. 10 Jul 1863 [no further details] Susannah Jane HOWE b. 16 Oct 1865 [no further details] Mary HOWE b. 27 May 1868, d. 21 Sep 1912 [no further details] Emily HOWE b. 01 Jun 1873; possibly married a DONNELLY [no further details] I apologise for the length of this request for assistance but I have been 'brick-walled' for some time now in respect to early members and am in bad need of assistance. Hi Dan, Is your Jackie HOWE the shearer? If he is, there is a street named after him in the suburb of Macarthur in Canberra. Probably not much help in your research but I will bet there are not too many researchers that have a street named after one of their ancestors. Bye the way, it is called Jackie Howe Crescent.
