Hoping someone can help I have a marriage certificate for my gg grandparents who were married 3rd January 1870 at St Matthews Catholic church, Windsor. There names were Edwin Carberry and Mary Ann Dunn. The gg grandmother was under 21 and her father John gave consent. The witnesses were Robert Dunn and Eliza Jane Stahl. My problem is there are no other names of parents on this certificate and when I looked on NSW BDM I found lots of John Dunn's with a few possibilities. Would the church records have the parents names and occupations recorded? If so are the church records with the said named church or are the records kept somewhere else? Thank you Maree Elliott Scone
Maree, did you check the John DUNN families in the BDMs for one who had children Mary Ann *and* Robert, because it looks like Robert could have been her brother? The births of children to John DUNNs would give you an idea of which might be the right one because you could get an idea from the birth area which might be the correct family. According to Nick Vine Hall's "Parish Registers In Australia" The St Matthew's Marriages 1835-1892 are held on film/fiche at SAG, so you may get lucky if you are able to check these. The originals might have the father's occupation and should have had the mother's name. Unless Murphy was doing the recording.
