    3. Thanks Glenn. I too wondered if Maria had been a nurse, but it is too early for St Vincent's Hospital. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenn Collyer" <gcollyer@bigpond.net.au> To: <AUS-NSW-Hunter-Valley-L@rootsweb.com> Cc: "'Jan Koperberg'" <jank@eftel.com.au> Sent: Wednesday, June 14, 2006 9:25 AM Subject: RE: Area by the name of St Vincents > Hi Jan > > I cannot think of anywhere in Sydney known as St Vincent's, other than the > hospital area. > The Catholic Church owned a tract of land stretching from Oxford St, > between > Darlinghurst & Paddington, almost to Kings Cross, up until about 1980 - > they > probably still do. > This area was much larger than that taken up by the hospital alone, at > least > as I recall from that time. > My understanding is that the terrace houses they purchased were intended > as > dwellings for the poor & hospital staff. 3. Hi Jan Could be St. Vincent and the Grenadines are located in the south Eastern Caribbean about 90 miles west of Barbados - the likely place that you would disembark then continue your flight to St. Vincent. The Grenadines are some 32 islands and cays stretching south from St. Vincent...... http://www.ualberta.ca/~amitchel/stvg.html Cheers Joanne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Koperberg" <jank@eftel.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-Hunter-Valley-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 14, 2006 10:46 AM Subject: [HV] Re: Area by the name of St Vincents > Thanks Glenn.
