    3. Hello Donna, Don't know if you've seen the small article that was in the book called A Souvenir of Stroud, which I purchased in 2001. Gorton.-The first people bearing the name of Gorton to arrive in this country from Berkshire England, were two brothers, Joe and George. George settled in Stroud, and for very many years was veterinary surgeon for the A.A. Co. He was noted for his high class breed of horses and cattle. Afterwards he moved to Dungog. He had a family of five sons and one daughter. Three sons, John, Joseph and George, were in partnership for some years on Tibrlc and Coniac stations. His daughter Charlotte was afterwards Mrs. Crispin. John was born in 1833 and died in 1904. He was the first Gorton to settle at Washpool; his property was known as "Glenholme Estate". The old homestead and part of the property is now owned by Mr. George Gorton, one of his sons. He had a family seven in number: William, Joe, George, Chris., Sedge, Les., and Mary (now Mrs. Benjamin). Mr. Robert James Gorton, of Briton Court, who has purchased "Hollydean." until his departure from Stroud, the residence of Dr. Orford, is a son of Joseph Gorton. With the name of Gorton is associated all the best and most high class breeds of Shorthorn and Durham cattle. "Gortons" were good judges of other people's cattle as well as their own, and Mr. George Gorton was a particularly noted stock judge. The electoral roll shows more Gortons than I really am able to mention here. This is one of the most popular, as well as best known families in the district. Also this mention of PRICE Price.-Edward Price was a great church man. He married Ann, a daughter of the late William Flannery. He is buried in the cemetery of St. John. They had Samuel, William, and Clarence as sons, and their daughters were Mrs. Edwin Gorton, Mrs. Allen Farley, Mrs. Robert Ford, Mrs. Donald Lewis and Miss Lilian Price. Miss Laura Price died some time ago. There are also various mentions of Benjamin Marsh and various Gortons in the Williams River Book - contact me offlist if you don't have them.
