Hi I'm a new lister in the UK and have just found out that my father was born 1912 in Gipp Street, Carrington which I hear is an island near Newcastle. Can't seem to find out much about it from this distance and imagine that Gipp Street is long gone. Any info on the street or the area in 1912 would be of interest. Also, just in case anyone may be researching the name, my grandmother was Elsie Alexander born in Newcastle about 1889 who married William Thompson a mariner from Paisley,Scotland in 1910. look forward to any information Paul Thompson

Hello Paul, Gipps Street Carrington is still there. While it may have been an island in the past it's a suburb of Newcastle and part of the harbour.
