According to family legend Henry Wicks and his wife Hannah arrived in Sydney from England as assisted emigrants on 3 Sept 1831 on the Bussorah Merchant. I have tried shipping records at State records but unable to find anything that coincides with dates etc. Does anyone have any ideas how I can validate this claim? Thanks Maree Elliott

Hi Maree You have the date wrong .......... ! In 1831 this ship transported convicts from Dublin to Sydney arriving 14 Dec 1831 as Bussorah Merchant 3 . Lesley Umbel has this date in her Claim a Convict web site and is also quoted in an old index I have on fiche - Free passengers and Crew of convict ships 1830 -1840 . Alas no Henry WICKS in these fiche . Also checked a couple of Col secs indexes 1831 + and PO Dirs 1834 , 1835 and 1839 and no ref to any Henry WICKS ?? Does his death cert offer any clue as to length of time resident ? Was he living in Merriwa by Oct 1852 ? Bye MargM Hunter Valley List Admin
