    3. Hi Jenny and List Paterson was in the Parish of Houghton - therefore some priests from the Church Of England would often write the actual parish down and not the town. Especially if a few miles away from the nearest settlement. However a good reference to check your Anglican parishes in the Newcastle region is the University of Newcastle site. http://www.newcastle.edu.au/service/archives/anglicandiocese/index/html (i hope i copied that right) This gives an index to registers held and the various parishes and towns included. You will note Paterson went from the Parish of Houghton 1839 to 1870 to the Parish of Gresford after that. But they also have a section for Paterson. I have a classic in 1855 - were the baptism is noted as the Parish of Murrumbidgee and that's it - absolutely no help whatsoever in giving me a location. Regards Garry Sanders Kariong, NSW
