The Newcastle Family History Society invites all family history researchers to join us for a special genealogical seminar being held on Saturday 10 Feb 2007 to celebrate the twenty-fifth year of operation of our Society. Our distinguished Guest Speakers for the seminar are Heather Garnsey Executive Officer of the Society of Australian Genealogists and Martyn Killion Vice President and Hon. Librarian of the Society of Australian Genealogists. Their topics are A. Ascertaining Ancestor's Assets This talk will look at the sources which can help to determine an ancestor's assets and belongings. Sources covered include probate, bankruptcy and insolvency records. B. Government Gazettes An in-depth investigation of the Gazettes as a genealogical source. C. Ascertaining Arrivals A one hour session on sources which can help ascertain the immigration details of ancestors. Immigration records and indexes as well as unusual sources such as Unemployment Registers are covered. D. "Black Sheep" in NSW This session covers divorce, gaol, maintenance, illegitimacy, court and asylum records.
