    3. Dear HV listers, Hoping someone may be able to help me with my mystery great aunt. Have just found some fascinating information about my great uncle Arthur John CAMPBELL who was killed in Gallipolli on 20/5/1915. He lists his next of Kin on enlistment in 1915 as Miss Ella Campbell of Maitland Rd Islington. My records indicate that the name on her birth record is Mary Ella CAMPBELL (born Greta 1888 to parents John & Catherine (nee Harrigan)). Arthur was actually married on enlistment, but lied about his next of kin because at the time they were not allowing married men to enlist. He was a locomotive fireman and worked out of the Waratah station. Sadly Arthur's wife, Maud Hannah ROLLASON (of Cooma) died in Glenmore Mental Asylum (Goulburn) in 1924, and it doesn't seem as though the army was able to trace Ella. Does anybody know anything about Ella/Mary? Finding it very difficult to trace any marriage/death records through BDM. So many Mary CAMPBELLS! And did she stay in Newcastle or go to Sydney where some of the rest of her family were? Any other suggestions as to where I might look? Many thanks -- Cathy Haynes Geelong, Vic AUSTRALIA Researching: HAYNES - Armidale & Sydney NSW; Co Cork, Ireland TAYLOR - Central Coast NSW Alfred KELLY born c1842 London; Central Coast NSW CURRAN - Dungog & Grafton NSW; Bristol UK O'DOHERTY - Port Macquarie & Wauchope NSW; Kings County Ireland CARNEY - Port Macquarie & Wauchope NSW;Co Donegal, Ireland BRISTOW(E) - London; Central Coast NSW FITZSIMMONS - Dungog NSW; Co Louth, Ireland William NORMAN (convict) born 1803 Kent; Kincumber NSW RILEY - Co Cavan; Kincumber NSW DUNBAR - Scotland; Macksville NSW HARRIGAN - Branxton NSW LENEHAN - Bathurst NSW CAMPBELL - Paisley Scotland & Hunter Valley NSW

    3. Hi Cathy Sometimes searching for records can be most frustrating - sometimes you have to be a little ecccentric to hit something. By putting Mary's surname and her parents given names into the Deaths search on NSW BDM, I found the death of Mary Agnes Campbell registered at Newcastle in 1958, making her 70 years old. Perhaps this is your mystery aunt? Here's hoping Greg Palmer Cathy Haynes wrote: >Dear HV listers, >Hoping someone may be able to help me with my mystery great aunt. >Have just found some fascinating information about my great uncle Arthur >John CAMPBELL who was killed in Gallipolli on 20/5/1915. >He lists his next of Kin on enlistment in 1915 as Miss Ella Campbell of >Maitland Rd Islington. >My records indicate that the name on her birth record is Mary Ella >CAMPBELL (born Greta 1888 to parents John & Catherine (nee Harrigan)). >Arthur was actually married on enlistment, but lied about his next of >kin because at the time they were not allowing married men to enlist.
