I've only ever known one Plumridge. A very nice man and I'm sure he'd be happy to help you .. although I have no idea if he has relatives in Newcastle area ... but seeing just about everybody has or has had *some* relatives in the Newcastle area (even me) it would be quite likely. He is a geologist named Colin Plumridge - A very systematic explorer for gold and copper and such. Did a great deal of work in the Bourke area, and elsewhere. You can easily see/find about him or his work (and probably find his contact within some such) via Google [and a few such finds I place below].
