While checking Boyle's index to Lower Hunter on Saturday I came across the following reference:- EMERTON Charlotte - paternity with John Hannell MM 12.8.1865 Charlotte was my husband's gt grandmother so I am keen to find out what I can about John Hannell. She had a child Jane in 1865 reg Newcastle who died in 1866 reg Maitland. Looking at the NSW BDM's I find a John Hannell married Mary A NORTON in 1838. The only two children listed were Jane E b 1839 James E b 1847 No John. Could the John mentioned in the article be the John who married Mary Norton? The only other John Hannell was one born in 1859. Too young to be the one in the MM article. The John Hannell who died in 1891 is the one who married Mary Norton. A browse through the internet reveals John Hannell (husband of Mary Norton I presume) as being a mayor of Newcastle at one time. If anyone has any knowledge of this family I'd be grateful to hear from them. Regards Kerrie Ballina
