Ray, In my view it's an artists impression with a lot of license. The artist would have been standing near Hampton Court on the east side and the grand looking building on the other side right of the picture is the Maitland Hospital. No idea what the factory is on the left. and the topography to the left looks wrong. I am hoping that listers who are very familiar with West Maitland might be able to help me out with more details about the photograph of the Long Bridge, in the link below -- which is to a photo of the sketch, in the National Library of Australia -- on its web-site. Here is the link: http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an8329629 My question is whether the foreground is on the eastern (Maitland town / Newcastle) end/side of the Long Bridge, looking westward to perhaps the hospital on the top right? OR, whether it is the opposite view, FROM the western (Telarah / Singleton) end, looking eastward towards the town of Maitland itself. AND .. being greedy ... Is anyone able to identify what that industrial chimney is likely to be on the top left, please? (Or any of the other structures etc. in the photo for that matter. For example I'd love to know what the little shack is on the bottom right (foreground); ) Grateful for any insights, as it is something which has long perplexed me. Thanks in advance.
