    3. Hi all My grandfather (Daniel Galvin) was a miner in the HV and on the NLA newspaper digitisation site I've been tagging mining related articles relating to the Hunter (also mining in and around Coen and the gold areas of Nth Qld if anyone has interests there). My Hunter related tags can be accessed on the NLA Newspaper digitisation site and include: Abedare Colliery, Hunter valley mines, Hunter valley mining accidents and Hunter Valley mine deaths. These will mainly refer to newspaper articles that you can access through the NLA site (see http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home ). I cannot overstate how great that site is and how it should be used by all family history researchers as well as people and students with an interest in, not only Australia's history, but how news from overseas was reported. I have found 190 references for one of my families in papers from all over Australia which I would never have expected. Admittedly they have an unusual name (German immigrants to the Hunter) but I have also found references to my Smiths as well in my searches. A fabulous resource! In the context of mines, general information, accidents and deaths the digitised newspapers are a very valuable resource. For those who haven't visited the site, it's the National Library of Australia site. Another great form of assistance for Australian residents is that you can sign up online and access a range of digital information. Hope this is useful Anne ----- Original Message ----- From: "terry " <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 03, 2009 2:17 PM Subject: Mineworkers Accidents and fatalaties > Good Afternoon, > > > > For those researchers who expressed interest in my data base ' > Mineworkers > Accidents and Fatalities', I have commenced adding the names to my web > site > at http://home.pacific.net.au/~tandd/RootFolder4/intro_mineworkers.html > > > Terry > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
