W Taylor was William Taylor my g.grandfather. I think the toll was at Roadsend in the end of the bridge. There was also an area called Toll Bar at the far end of Rutherford before going down on the flats. Someone did state that the hospital is closer to the corner, which is correct, but the oldest part of the hospital is further along, and appears to be the same as in the engraving. The building on the distant left may well correspond to Benholme. I had been looking for a building on the east of Regent St, but the engraving does not necessarily show this. Benholme is in the right position but my preliminary searches suggest it was built by W Taylor in 1884 (too late for this engraving). Was there an earlier building which was later converted to Benholme? As to the foreground building possibly being a toll house. http://www.mn.catholic.org.au/newsroom/auroraissues/aurora48_p21story.htm mentions that a toll of a halfpenny was levied on travel over the bridge in 1872, so it could possibly be a toll house.
