Dear Janice I'm descended from a Margaret Plunkett (1833 - 1933), and some of her descendants were also living in the Muswellbrook area from the early 1900's. It's a different family to yours though, and comes complete with an impenetrable brick wall, with its components going back to Newry, Armagh. My reason for replying though is that unfortunately every family with a Plunkett forebear, passes on the story that they're descended from St Oliver! However he didn't have any known descendants, but was a Roman Catholic bishop. Some of the older members of my family were convinced they were descended from him, and didn't like being told it was most unlikely..... otherwise their ancestor would have been illegitimate, and they didn't like that either! However a lot of Plunkett families named male children Oliver (after St Oliver's martyrdom), so today many Plunkett descendants are bound to be descended from a Mr Oliver Plunkett but just not St Oliver Plunkett. Sorry to pour cold water on your enthusiasm, and best of luck with finding out more about your Mary (nee Plunkett). Cheers Liz (Parkinson) > Also, another story passed on down the family is that Mary KING (nee PLUNKETT), could trace her > Irish ancestry back to Saint Oliver Plunkett, an Irish Martyr and I know if this can be proved, > there would be a lot of excitement in the family. I have been able to find Mary's father Edward > PLUNKETT on the 1851 Census, he was 55 years of age and living in St Mary's Lane in Kilmainham > in Dublin, her mother Judy PLUNKETT (nee Miles) is not listed. >
