Hi, I also have had a wonderul time with the site. I found a lovely story about an ancestor who took another fellow to court for stealing his turkeys. The plaintiff turned up at the case with a few drinks in him and the judge sent him to jail for contempt of court. The defendant, when his case came up (I was able to find both the instances) was acquitted! This was back in 1848. Its a great site, and a great time waster. I have found over 100 references to one of my families with what is admittedly an unusal family name, Bouffier/Buffier. They set up a local cricket club, played in what must have been the original NSW/Qld State of Origin football and one member and wrote occasional very stoppy letters about various community members to the local paper. I've also found some articles which have made me shiver. My great grandfather was a policeman in far north Queensland around Coen, Musgrave and Laura. I have found a number of articles about him, including one where he found a corpse. The man had been speared and had then fallen or was pushed into a lagoon and a crocodile came upon him. I count myself lucky to live when I do and not have to face the sheer hard work and grind and the dangers of Australia in the late 18th and early 19th Century. I cannot recommend the NLA site too highly. I would suggest everybody check all of the newspapers available and do not restrict your search just to newspapers in the area your ancestors lived. I have found family in places I would never have expected them to be, including across the continent from their home. I have also found shipping records, records of overseas sales from family members, show awards etc. It's proved to be a great resource and I'm really looking forward to more newspapers coming on line.
