Sydney's civil parishes (used for various purposes including BDM records) and the various ecclesiastical parishes are not the same. The Parish of St James, County of Cumberland includes St Mary's Cathedral and the predecessor Catholic Church (burnt down). For the sake of completion, the four inner city parishes are St James, St Philip, St Andrew and St Laurence. Three of them happen to be named after the Church of England churches in their district, the exception being St Laurence: the C of E church in that area is Christ Church.
