I think I might have made a mistake with the name of the Inn, and it should just be the ROSE INN somewhere in West Maitland. ON-list reply: Margaret, this link: http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&source=hp&biw=848&bih=587&q=durham+street+maitland&btnG=Google+Search&oq=durham+street+maitland&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=2601l8822l0l26l26l2l5l2l1l397l4554l1.6.6.6&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=53b59b1fb74ce34a has hits which seem to indicate that it is now called Northumberland street, and was formerly Durham Street. Hi Margaret, I think the Rose Inn was in High Street, West Maitland, backing onto the river. At TROVE newspapers I searched on the following terms: "rose inn" street West Maitland This first hit is an 1849 article mentioning building allotments which had frontages to High Street & were also opposite The Rose Inn. Then Googling the street with the hotel name gave me the following: http://www.jenwilletts.com/rose_inn_west_maitland.htm To get an exact location I would check further newspaper articles for any references & also old photos of high street which may include the hotel name on the front of the building. There is a mention of the Maitland Amateur Theatre being nearly opposite the Rose Inn in a Maitland Mercury newspaper article in 1893 (a repeat of an 1844 article) so if someone knows where that was, it may help. Hope that helps, Deb. -----Original Message----- From: Margaret Bauer Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2011 6:45 AM To: aus-nsw-hunter-valley@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HV] Durham Street West Maitland I think I might have made a mistake with the name of the Inn, and it should just be the ROSE INN somewhere in West Maitland.
