I suspect that you will find that the ship "Brougham" and the ship "Broom" will be the same ship, just written down differently. If you search the online indexes at NSW State Records for shipping lists in 1842, that will give you the correct name and spelling. Vicki: you mentioned Nancy GREY. Nancy was an extremely highly-thought-of historian and genealogist in the district. It is HER guide to Tracing Family Trees in Australia (probably not its correct title) which the Society of Australian Genealogists still sell as their basic introduction to genealogy research for Australians (albeit in later updated/revised editions). Accordingly, I should expect any information which Nancy GREY provided to be of an extremely high quality.
