    3. Hi John I have a convict ancestor, William Sherry, from Kent England who married another convict, Bridget Regan from Cork Ireland. They were married at Singleton in 1843 and later lived at Scone. I have heard of Elizabeth Sherry before as many years ago, Nancy Gray from Scone sent me some information on her as she thought she may have belonged to my family but I am not sure about that. The following is what Nancy provided: "On 21 July 1842 William Williams, bachelor, married Elizabeth Sherry, spinster, both of Parish of Scone in St Luke's C of E by banns & consent of the Governor the witnesses being Thomas & Mary French of Scone. Permits for convicts to marry, or Marriages with sanction give: William Williams, age 26, came by Mangles(6) Life sentence, T of L -marriage sanctioned to Elizabeth Sherry aged 21, came free on Brougham. Date of sanction 12 July 1842. John Morse (chaplain) Williams owned Lot 5, section 16 of Village of Scone, 1840" I note your surname of Rice. Interestingly, I have Crothers and Rice members in my family tree who lived in the upper hunter and were originally from Armagh Ireland. Vicki

    3. Hi Vicki, Thank you for your post. My Elizabeth Sherry was born about 1824/5 in Nth Ireland and came to Australia on board ship "Broom" in 1842 under protection of her brother in law, James McCabe who was married to Elizabeth sister, Sarah. Elizabeth had been brought out by Mr Francis Reid. Elizabeth told a fib by stating her age as 21 when she married William Williams in 1842 Regards John Qld -----Original Message----- From: Denis & Vicki Moran Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2011 5:52 PM To: AUS-NSW-HUNTER-VALLEY@rootsweb.com Subject: [HV] re Elizabeth Sherry
