    3. Hi I am trying to ascertain the actual dates of birth of several of the children of Joseph and Bridget Walmsley. I am aware of the actual birth dates of Ellen, Alice and Joseph, but not of Robert circa 1856, Mary circa 1860, Frederick circa 186,1 William circa 1865, Lavinia circa 1867 and Constance circa 1871. They were all born in Newcastle. I would appreciate any assistance in obtaining actual birth dates. regards John Bird

    3. Hello Hazel The letter you mention sounds very interesting.  I'm sure both Bruce and myself would be keen to see it.  I'll send you my contact details if you like.   What do you mean when you say that you gave the book to a bushranger impersonator? Its always interesting to learn about Captain Thunderbolt, there are so many stories and finding the truth through death certificates would go some of the way toward clearing up the mystery.  Sorry if this post comes through with question marks everywhere, I don't know how to stop it happening. Regards Richard

    3. Dear Heather, Just as a warning that everything, absolutely everything has to be checked. Today at the Penrith FHS Fair I worked with a couple who were married in England. They have viewed the records recording their marriage nearly 50 years ago and the town name and district are quite clearly written on them. On Ancestry the details are entirely different, and so are the marriage details of a few friends who married around the same time. Obviously the transcription is wrong, and was not double checked. While it may be corrected after this was drawn to the attention of Ancestry, it is a warning that everything is not exactly correct. Someone not knowing the exact details would record the wrong information as shown as being "gospel", but it is wrong. Have you tried the TROVE website for a Death or Obituary in the Maitland Mercury, or the Gow index of the same paper, along with many other sources? An Obituary just may mention the parents and wife to help identify which one you need. Sincerely, Bill > > Hoping to find some other researchers of FREEMAN who were in Patricks > Plains > > And Maitland area in the 1850's up who might be able to help with an > anomaly > > With this family. > > I have a friend Tracy who is descended from this family and has a lot of > Info from family, but on closer inspection of bdm site, ancestry etc I see > Something that doesn't seem to add up right. >

    3. Hello to Richard & Bruce I have only done very limited research into Thunderbolt as my stepfather Arthur Comber was interested in the man. Arthur's uncle was Thomas Mason who was one of Thunderbolts apprentices his father was Thomas Edward Comber who married Theresa Tolly/Tolley on 24 Feb 1909. Theresa sister Charlotte Tolly/Tolley married 1889 both marriages took place in the Armidale area. Arthur always told me that Thunderbolt escaped to England though I have never looked into it. I will have to check but about 15 years back just prior to his death Arthur gave me a letter written by Thomas Mason with some details in it and a book. The book I gave to a bushranger impersonator the letter is still here amongst my files I will have a look and if I can locate it (can't promise) I would be only to happy to give it to one of you. Other family names that connect to Mason are: COMBER, TOLLY, NORTHEY, GEARY. The only other item I can remember in the latter was a lady named Mrs Blanch who owned a public house at Uralla. You most probably know all the above I have sent this info so you will know I did check some of the info Arthur gave me handed down from his mother and father. 3. Hi list Hoping to find some other researchers of FREEMAN who were in Patricks Plains And Maitland area in the 1850's up who might be able to help with an anomaly With this family. I have a friend Tracy who is descended from this family and has a lot of Info from family, but on closer inspection of bdm site, ancestry etc I see Something that doesn't seem to add up right. My friend Tracy's g/father was a Francis Stephen Robert Freeman b. 1905 Lochinvar to Andrew E Freeman and wife Frances M Cooper who m. 1884 West Maitland They have Andrew E's father as George E and that this George E married a Margaret McManus 1862 Patricks Plains who had a 12 kids in Patricks Plains (but no Andrew E). Looking at bdms there is 2 Andrew E's listed both in 1856, 1 to George & Mary & 1 to George & Elizabeth in Maitland. I can find a death of 1 in 1918 Morpeth to George & Mary and this Andrew is given in Tracy's info as being Frances's husband. Frances is listed on 1930 electoral in Morpeth then in West Maitland after This with no sign of her husband. I haven't come across any definite deaths for the George & Margaret above Yet but are not listed on electoral rolls and no definites on the 1891 & 1901 NSW census on ancestry. Searching Google has given me some sites of FREEMANS from Patricks Plains For George & Mary nee Burns who have a Andrew but nothing has been traced on Him. It shows this couple dying in Patrick's Plains long after George & Margaret married. I did notice that both George's were having kids in Patricks Plains at roughly same time so proves there were 2 George's in the Area at same time. So now I need to know how Tracy's family know that Andrew's father George is Linked to Margaret McManus. I think someone has mixed the two families Together and not really researched properly. I am trying to get Tracy to Purchase some certificates to help work it out. In the meantime if any other Freeman researchers of Patricks Plains can shed Some light on the 2 George's would be a great help. I do know that Mary's George descends from the Samuel Freeman etc. I do notice that both George's use the name Emanuel with their descendants So wonder if they are both related in some way. Regards Heather Macdonald

    3. Hi Tim   Do you know Julia's mother's name? If you do, I suggest you do a search for her under her mother's maiden name - she may have been born prior to her mother marrying a Ryan and she took the Ryan surname. I have this occurring in my family tree, which is also Ryan based. In my case Elizabeth Ryan gave birth to a daughter then married James Smails and the daughter took the Smails surname and named James as her father when she married even though her birth was registered under the name of Ryan with no father named.   I am also looking for a birth for one of Elizabeth's sisters. Her name is Honora and she only became known to me via her parent's death certificates as she was named as a child of their marriage but todate I have been able to find a birth registration for her. I have come to the conclusion Honora is the name she was known to the family as but may not necessarily be her christian name or the name her birth was registered under. These Ryan's are a difficult bunch to piece together.   Good luck.   Roseanne

    1. [HV] Julia Martha Mary Ann Ryan appeared out of nowhere
    2. Tim Jones
    3. Julia Martha Mary Ann Ryan married Thomas William Smith on 18 July 1893 in Yass. Various NSW BDM certificates I have provide bits of information. There is one reference to her father being Patrick Ryan. Her ages and dates suggest she was born sometime between 1866 and 1871 - most likely 1866-1867. There are several references to her being born in Denman NSW. There was an Ann Ryan born 1869 in Muswellbrook but she died the same year. There was a Martha Ryan who had lots of kids in Muswellbrook around that time but they all died in 1870 and none had this person's name. Something must be wrong. Either ... She was lying about her age She was not born in Denman (or anywhere within cooee of Yass) Her father's name was not Patrick In any case I can't find anyone that fits the bill on the NSW BDM index. Is that normal?? I think she must have been born overseas. But it even says Denman, Hunter River on one of the certs. I'm out of ideas ? I've searched Trove as well but no luck there either. I do know of one other of my ancestors who's birth was not registered - maybe this is another such case.?? Regards Tim Jones
