    2. Hi Richard, If you check BDM online he doesn't appear to have been a registered birth(?). Even the cold hard facts of the governor general's last Sunday lunch are quickly lost if the guv'mint or someone aren't doing their job. Perhaps they had a budget cut the year Thunderbolt was born and decided only to register two out of every five births at Wilberforce. I'm particularly interested in just how gaps in records came about. Or in any published studies on such. For convict records there's been a few studies, apparently, of how records came to get lost, or wilfully destroyed. But what happened to those studies? Perhaps they got lost too? I suspect it is all very complicated ... if only we knew. Cheers, John On Mon Mar 21 18:27 , Richard sent: Hello Does anyone have certificates of Thunderbolt's family - the BDM certificates? 3. John   There is this place called 'the big black hole' which is the resting place for many government and other records - I am sure you have heard of it. If someone could find where it is then maybe we would all get our family history brick walls broken down.   --- On Mon, 21/3/11, john.mail@ozemail.com.au <john.mail@ozemail.com.au> wrote: From: john.mail@ozemail.com.au <john.mail@ozemail.com.au> Subject: Re: [HV] Thunderbolts middle name To: aus-nsw-hunter-valley@rootsweb.com Received: Monday, 21 March, 2011, 9:44 PM    Hi Richard,    If  you  check  BDM online he doesn't appear to have been a registered    birth(?). These should reveal the cold hard facts of the family lineage..      Richard

    3. Hi listers, I learnt of Mocavo a few days ago from a newsletter email I receive from Eastman's Online Genealogy. Hopefully Australian content will be available in the future. Already US people are complaining that their websites are not included yet (including pages people have generated from particular genealogy software) so looks like it will be popular, although some at this stage are complaining that Google is still better. Mocavo has a link to Suggest a site if you want pages added. If you are interested in what people are saying, see the following 2 Eastman articles: http://tinyurl.com/5vcwfmn http://tinyurl.com/6g62pqr You can also subscribe to Eastman's daily emails on the above pages - they include informative articles on new things in genealogy including websites, software & gadgets useful for family historians. Although it has international content (incl AUS&NZ) it is US based, but I have found it to be useful in keeping up to date with what is happening in the genealogy world. There is an Australian website with similar up-to-date usefulness but as it has a commercial slant to it as well, I'm not sure I can mention it here. Since starting family history years ago I have subscribed to whatever reputable newsletter emails are relevant to my research eg. SAG (has a web tips section), SRNSW "Now & Then", one starting with G which has to remain nameless here as per Rootsweb rules as it is an Australian genealogy shop, etc. I can't tell you how invaluable they have been in addition to good old Google & family history magazines. I don't always have time to read all of them but I do skim them for new links relevant to me. Whenever new links or developments appear on the Rootsweb lists I belong to, I have usually already received them from one of my newsletters. If you want to keep ahead I encourage you to search for the newsletter subscription links on any reputable websites you use. Of course there is usually Facebook, Twitter & RSS feeds now, but I prefer the good old fashioned email - less of a time waster for me personally. 3. Have just learnt of a new search engine whose spider indexes genealogy webs: http://www.mocavo.com/ with search tips at their blog: http://blog.mocavo.com/ Their blurb says: "The world’s largest free genealogy search engine, Mocavo.com, provides genealogists access to the best free genealogy content on the web including billions of names, dates and places worldwide. Mocavo.com seeks to index and make searchable all of the world’s free genealogy information. While Mocavo.com discovers new sites every day, some of the existing sites searchable on Mocavo.com include genealogy message boards, family trees, state and local historical societies, the Library of Congress, National Archives, Ellis Island, Find A Grave, the Internet Archive, various U.S. state archives, and many tens of thousands of genealogy sites built by individuals. Similar to other search engines, Mocavo.com honors site owners by linking directly to their content."

At the 1993 Royal Easter Show the Registrar Generals Dept had a stand and were giving away photocopies of this death certificate as a souvenir. The death took place on 25 May 1870 at Kentucky Ponds, district of Armidale. The columns for parents names and marriage and children were all marked "unknown". If anyone would like further information I'd happy to supply it. Regards Kerrie

I got back to Tracy today and have told her this and that it would be beneficial to get some certs. I did do searches on trove last night and this morning with some surprising news items regarding George and the death of Margaret nee McManus in 1929 in Sydney , as a widow. I also found a item on Andrew E's marriage to Frances...only it says Andrew was the youngest son of John in Singleton...my searches on bdm shows no Andrew's to a John. Was hoping to find a death for Andrew Emanuel on Trove but nothing yet. Thanks for your reply Heather Macdonald

His father was Joseph BRAY, (not CHAPMAN ), and he had a son COLIN COURT CHAPMAN MBE., and a Grandson COLIN FIRTH CHAPMAN. WJ. also had a daughter named GEORGINA ALICE. My main interest is in JOSEPH BRAY, a soldier with the Royal Engineers, born England c1834. He was the father of WILLIAM JOSEPH and he deserted in Montreal, Canada, and lived and died in Vermont, USA in 1899. I wish to know exactly where in England JOSEPH was born and when, plus his parents names if known. ( He may also have been baptised as WILLIAM JOSEPH. William Joseph had two other families, the first named Chapman (his legal wife) and second name Campbell, ( 1st de-facto ). The Newcastle Chapmans are from his second de-facto wife.
