Hi to all, I have given up on my Griffiths family for awhile - to many brick walls. I am now starting my partners Presland family. They were free settlers arriving in Australia about 1844. They were living around Cory Vale, Vacy areas. Anyone researching this family I would love to hear from you. Lyn
We (Bob and Joan Baxter) are new to this list and are posting our interests. We are researching Joan's LONG and TUCKER ancestors, and associated families. John TUCKER Senior was Joan's 3xGreat Grandfather and John TUCKER Junior her G-G Grandfather. Her Great Grandfather was Frederick John TUCKER, 5th child of John Junior. Frederick John TUCKER married Ann LONG on 25 January 1849, at Anambah. Her Grandfather, Frederick and Ann's son, Frederick Walter TUCKER was born at Paterson River on 4 December 1857 (family Bible record - no birth record located, but details confirmed by his marriage certificate and death certificate). Her father, Percival Frederick TUCKER, was born at Cullen Bullen on 8 October 1881. On the LONG family side, Joan's Great Grandmother, Ann Long, was born in Ireland about 1826-28 and died in Sydney on 15 November 1924. Ann and her parents, Benjamin and Catherine LONG arrived in Australia about 1833-35. Catherine's maiden name was HICKEY. We have some information on the Tucker line from the Paterson Historical Society's book, "The Settlers of Paterson's Plains", and from some family records, plus a number of BDM certificates, but rather less information on the Longs. We found the grave of Benjamin and Catherine, and a son John, in the Campbell Hill Cemetery, Maitland. We would be pleased to exchange information with other list members. Particularly keen to find out more about the origins of the Long, Hickey and Tucker families, and to start looking into the origins of the wives of the two John Tuckers. Bob and Joan Baxter

Hi Listers, ALBERT SAUNDERS, b. 1851 in Llanelly, Wales, and wife MARY EVANS, also of Llanelly, together with Albert's brother and sister-in-law, ARTHUR SAUNDERS and ELIZABETH HAYNES, arrived in South Australia in 1876. Several years later they moved to the Merewether area where the men worked in the coal mines. Sometime around 1900 Arthur and Elizabeth relocated to W.A. while Albert and Mary remained in Merewether. After Mary's death in 1923 Albert lived with his youngest son, Albert jnr, at Cessnock, where he passed away the following year. Among the newspaper notices for Albert's funeral is one inviting Mrs and Mrs Sam RICHARDS and Mr and Mrs GATES (no Christian name or initial given) to attend the funeral of their beloved Uncle. Mrs Sam Richards was the oldest daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth, but who were Mr and Mrs Gates? I have a list of descendants for both Albert and Arthur, and the Gates surname doesn't appear. After contacting known descendants of both men I am no closer to breaking down this brick wall. My only thought is that a sibling of either Albert or Mary also migrated to Australia. If any listers can suggest other avenues to follow I'd be very grateful. Also, if anyone has connections to or information on the following Saunders descendants, I'd love to make contact - George m. Grace Emerton, Elizabeth m. Frederick McCarty Edward m. Mary Ellen Plumridge Benjamin m. Janet Shepherd Albert m. Annie McIntyre Mary Beatrice m. Victor Lloyd. Maureen
