    2. I have been a "lurker" for a little while now - few weeks - watching and learning as I am a fairly new family history researcher and want to say thank you to the listers who give their time and efforts in responding to the queries posted by fellow researchers. I especially found this list interesting today because I have been trying to find a birth place of a great grandfather and through the web links given, I have finally located it. So thank you to Ray and Helen. Have you searched for it under the Geographical Names Board of NSW? Here is the URL for it: http://www.gnb.nsw.gov.au/name/search A search there gives 30 hits, with several of them being in the Hunter Area. Most of the hits are still quite vague, but I hope nevertheless that this might be of some at least limited assistance to you. 3. Kaye, Sorry I can't help you with your actual query, but I'm interested to pursue the first marriage you mention. Alice MORGAN was my great- great aunt, her sister Anney married my great-grandfather William Francis GOODHEW. I have a small amount of info about Peter RIGBY, but have not followed his line. I have that Peter and Alice were married in the Christchurch Cathedral at Newcastle on 5 Sept 1859. They were married by Edward K. Yeatman and the witnesses were Betsy Morgan and Daniel McAlpin, but I suppose you already know that. I would be interested in contacting anybody with connections to this MORGAN family, Alice and Anne had five other surviving sisters [Elizabeth (Betsy), Margaret, Mary, Sarah and Ellen] and one brother, James, who died as an infant. Their parents were James MORGAN (1814-1867), a carder from Lancashire, who may have been an engine driver when the family came to Newcastle (Bolton Street) in the early 1840s; and Sarah BROUGHTON (1813-1881) also born in Lancashire. 3. Dear List, Thank you for the super quick responses (4) so far. Need to check against my previous research on the Clarke family. I know the family settled in and around Maitland and Morpeth in the from the mid 1840s to 1852. Moses Clarke was bitten by the gold bug and moved onto the Sofala (Bullock Flat) region by the 1860s and then finished up tin-mining at Napoleon Reef just off the Western Road in the 1870s and 80s. Again thank you to those who have responded. Regards Garry

    3. Hi Listers Sorry for cross posting, but wasn't sure which list this would fall under. I have just read an article relating to the above business, saying that my Great-Grand Aunt (Dinah FROST nee DENNEY) was left this building in Joseph FROST ("Manlius" 1827) will. It was also stated that he was a baker by trade, but all the information I have on him indicates that he was a dairyman or farmer. Does anyone have information that would confirm any of the above information. ?? MargaretB Lake Macquarie NSW Australia

My great grandmother Elizabeth Libertus ENGLISH was born on board the barque "Libertas" in 1855 during her family's emigration to Australia. The ship departed London on 8 March and arrived on 28 June in Newcastle. Elizabeth's family settled in Maitland for six or seven years before relocating to Sydney. As you can see the family must have had a memorable trip to have given their new daughter such a middle name, though they did alter the spelling slightly, and much to my mother's embarassment she inherited "Libertus" as a middle name. Thank you again for your kind offer to the list. Many years ago I was given a copy of a letter written by William Wilson to his parents in England. The letter is dated January 6th 1855 and recounts his voyage to Australia. The address he gives is the Maitland Hotel, Maitland. William was a stone mason and I think that he was the same William, aged 25, who came over on the Kate in 1854.
