    3. Hi Jenny, I Googled it and found a similar query with this reply on some archives: "Northern Hunter Valley Approx north bank of the Hunter River to the to Barrington River is Co of Durham , South to the north bank of the Hawkesbury is Co of Northumberland. About the only ref to these counties seen these days is on land title info. The LTO ( or LPI ) have parish maps on line" Hope this helps, Wendy -----Original Message----- From: aus-nsw-hunter-valley-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-nsw-hunter-valley-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jenny McCarthy Sent: Friday, 2 February 2007 10:35 AM To: aus-nsw-hunter-valley@rootsweb.com Subject: [HV] Houghton I have found a marriage at the Church of England Church, Houghton, Can anyone tell me where that was? ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*.` Jenny McCarthy Brightwaters N.S.W. on beautiful Lake Macquarie ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-NSW-HUNTER-VALLEY-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. G'day Peter, The Colonial Administration tried to limit the area under settlement to "The Nine Counties" of NSW. This covered from below Wooloogong to about Port Macquarie. All the rest of Northern NSW--was called 'The Moreton District' and included South-East Qld and part of the Darling Downs. It was not a County. Queensland didn't become a separate State until 1859. Certs. of Freedom & Tickets of Leave were often issued at the nearest Police District. For Muswellbrook, this may have been 'INVERMEIN' or 'MERTON'. Suggest you try a Google for these names or jsut 'Police Districts' of NSW, HTH, Bennie. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Strauss" <pstrauss@aapt.net.au> To: "List Hunter Valley" <aus-nsw-hunter-valley@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 29, 2007 10:28 AM Subject: [HV] THOMAS LYNCHEY/LYNCHY/LYNCH > Hi Listers, > Thomas LYNCHEY, sometimes LYNCHY and sometimes LYNCH arrived from the Isle > of Man in 1835 [Mary Ann(4)]. > > I have a copy of his ToL # 44/1537 issued 14th May 1847 at Muswellbrook > and allowing him to remain "in the District of Moreton Bay". > > Moreton bay seems a long way from Muswellbrook but he may have had a > connection their. > > I have not found his Certificate of Freedom which should have been granted > by 1847 unless he got up to further mischief, nor have I found a death or > a marriage. > > Can any Lister assist please? > > Peter > Melbourne > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. > It has removed 1246 spam emails to date. > Paying users do not have this message in their emails. > Try SPAMfighter for free now! > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AUS-NSW-HUNTER-VALLEY-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.17.12/655 - Release Date: > 28/01/2007 1:12 PM > >

    3. Hi Listers, Thomas LYNCHEY, sometimes LYNCHY and sometimes LYNCH arrived from the Isle of Man in 1835 [Mary Ann(4)]. I have a copy of his ToL # 44/1537 issued 14th May 1847 at Muswellbrook and allowing him to remain "in the District of Moreton Bay". Moreton bay seems a long way from Muswellbrook but he may have had a connection their. I have not found his Certificate of Freedom which should have been granted by 1847 unless he got up to further mischief, nor have I found a death or a marriage. Can any Lister assist please? 1. [HV] the King descendants
    2. Dear John, of the 24 children I listed previously, only the ones below married!! They are all listed and almost all with good detail in the Pioneer Register for Cessnock. William Thomas King and Mary Finn Mary Anne Jane King and George T Jones Charles King and Elizabeth Dark listed but no children in list Benjamin King and Martha J Dark Lucy Jane King and Karl Fred Selin Eliza King and John Aurisch Henry King and Mary Jane Smith Matilda and William John Weekes Emma King and Isaiah Jackson Charlotte Selina King and Frederick T King Camelia Caroline King and Edward William T Jones It would be obtainable from the Cessnock District Historical and Family History Society. Mine cost $30. Sounds like a good investment. However, why not contact the person who submitted the details for the King family? The book lists her as Barbara Blackmore of 73 Maitland St, Kurri Kurri, 2327 With luck she might have it in electronic format and can email it to you. Regards, John Goswell

    3. Hi John Thank you very much for your time and effort you have put into checking and listing the 24 King children as it helps put to-gether a clearer idea of my family. Does the pioneer book mention other King family members, and does it have entries on the Welch/Welsh or the Perkins families? If it does I will try and buy a copy. For further interest, here are details of Richard King's parents and their children: Charles King (1806 Chesterton, OXF - 13.12.1879 Mt Dee, Maitland, NSW) married Sarah Ann Bowden (1807 Middleton Stoney, OXF - 01.12.1879 Mt Dee Maitland, NSW) on 03.07.1825 at Middleton Stoney, OXF. They emigrated to Australia on board the "Templar" in 1844. Their children were: 1. Ann King (1826 Chesterton, OXF - 27.11.1895); m.1 1846 Michael Finnegan; m2. 1853 John Finn; m3. 1878 John Saunders 2. Elizabeth King (1828 Chesterton, OXF - 13.12.1898 West Wallsend, NSW); m. 1846 Bernard Connolly (This is my line...) 3. Thomas King (1830 Chesterton OXF - 29.01.1901Fishery Creek, Maitland, NSW); m. 1856 Elizabeth Lamb 4. Mary Anne King (1833 Chesterton, OXF - 21.06.1897 Leichardt NSW); m. 1849 Robert Elliott 5. Hannah King (1835 Chesterton, OXF - 25.06.1891 Ourimbah NSW); m. 1851 Joseph James Welch 6. Richard King (1838 Chesterton, OXF - 07.09.1922 Mt View, Cessnock, NSW); m. 1859 Camilla Locock 7. William King (1840 Chesterton, OXF - 27.04.1915 Mt View, Cessnock, NSW); m1. 1862 Mary Jackson; m2. 1884 Ellen Locock 8. Benjamin King (1843 Chesterton, OXF - 23.08.1849 Eldon, Raymond Terrace, NSW) 9. Charles King (10.11.1845 Eldon, Raymond Terrace, NSW - 19.07.1912 Pokolbin NSW); m. Elizabeth Hollingshed (This man owned the land on which McWilliams Mount Pleasant winery is now located) 10. Sarah Jane King (02.04.1848 Eldon, Raymond Terrace, NSW - 01.09.1899 Ryde NSW); m. 1878 Samuel Harris 11. John King (14.02.1851 Eldon, Raymond Terrace, NSW - 06.09.1899 Gladesville, NSW); m. 1874 Alice Bloye Woods Most of these children went on to have large families, several with more than 10 children. I have no idea how many grandchildren Charles and Sarah King had but the mind boggles. Whenever my great-grandfather went to Cessnock when my grandfather was a boy, he would warn my grandfather, "Don't say a word about the Kings here. EVERYBODY is a King here. Even us and we are Halpins!") The families all intermarried with various other well known Cessnock families (eg the Crafts, Connollys and Lococks) and so the man in the street could be a cousin of a different name and anything you said could spread like wildfire. The newspaper articles I have seem to show the Kings as a litigious lot who were not always best of friends with each other. There were lots of disputes about land etc. I think they were a bit wild myself... Anyway, just because I want to, here are the children of my Elizabeth King and her husband Bernard Connolly (1816 Dublin, Ireland - 13.06.1888 Pokolbin NSW); m. 11.01.1846 West Maitland NSW. 1. Joseph Connolly (13.12.1846 - ?) 2. Bernard Connolly (18.05.1848 Williams River, NSW - 06.01.1871 Pokolbin, NSW) 3. Jane Connolly (? - bef. 1854) 4. Sarah Connolly (15.09.1854 Peel River, NSW - ?) 5. Mary Ann Agnes Connolly (1858 Peel River, NSW - 1892 East Maitland, NSW); m. 1880 Henry Wells 6. Unnamed Connolly (1858 - 1858) 7. Thomas Connolly (1860 - 31.01.1861) 8. Bridget Connolly (1862 - ?) 9. John Richard Connolly (30.05.1862 Cessnock, NSW - 06.03.1917 Cessnock, NSW); m. 1893 Laura Lavinia Craft 10. Charles Mark Connolly (01.06.1864 Cessnock, NSW - 1943 Wyong NSW) 11. Teresa Connolly (22.05.1866 Cessnock, NSW - 03.09.1899 West Wallsend, NSW); m. 1887 Patrick Halpin 12. Stephen Mark Connolly (13.11.1867 - 28.04.1944 Cessnock, NSW); m. 1894 Alice Ada Craft There was lots of sad history there - Joseph Connolly was charged with manslaughter for the death of his brother Bernard while "skylarking" and wrestling but was later acquitted as the coroner found Bernard had a congenital heart defect; Mary Ann Agnes died leaving a large number of children fostered out to various family members; my Teresa died at age 33 leaving a family of young children. Their father Patrick Halpin left his oldest son (my great grandfather) in the care of the Hedley family of Newcastle / Adamstown and the rest of the children were left at the Benevolent Asylum in Sydney in early 1901. They were later found by my great-grandfather having been adopted by the Foley family in Goulburn, but nobody ever heard from Patrick again. Well, my fingers are tired form typing now... Hope this has been interesting, Sean Halpin
