    1. [HV] Johanna TIERNEY - Help please.
    2. Janice Doughty
    3. Hello Listers, It has been some time since I have been on the HV List, as I have been endeavouring to "proof read", the family story and get it into print, as the older generation are not getting any younger, and over the past couple of years we have lost a few, who I know would have loved to know the family story. This List has given me over the years some very much appreciated assistance and I am back to ask for some more help. I am hoping that SKS can fill in the details regarding one Johanna TIERNEY, and information on this lady would be very much appreciated. Johanna married convict Thomas RUSHTON in 1843 at the Catholic Church in Maitland. Thomas RUSHTON arrived on the convict ship "John" (2) in 1837. Thomas RUSHTON was tried for Murder at Lancaster Castle with his partners in crime, Evan BRINDLE and William HEALD. All found guilty, sentenced to death, sentence commuted to transportation for Life. Thomas RUSHTON was assigned to Peter McINTYRE at his property "Segenhoe" Durham. After Thomas RUSHTON received his Ticket of Leave, he joined the Police Force and served as a constable in the Newcastle and the Maitland districts. Thomas and Johanna RUSHTON had at least five children, Eliza 1844, Henry 1846, Thomas 1848, George 1851, Laurence 1854. Johanna RUSHTON died in 1859 at Raymond Terrace and her father is given as John. I have found a birth of a Johanna TIERNAN (could this be a transcription error and should be TIERNEY) in 1824 and her parents are given as John and Ellen. Regards, Janice Belrose - Sydney.
