Hi Rosalee. A Robert Henry Burgess [Bert] was a produce merchant in Singleton in the 1930-1960 period. He may have been the son of a Henry and Elizabeth Burgess of West Maitland, born in 1902. A Bertram H. Burgess was born at Wollombi in 1886 to a Charles and Jane Burgess. HTH. Bennie.
I have my brick wall and would appreciate some ideas on where to go now. I have John BURGESS born 1800 Near Smithfield London, sentenced to death on 09.09.1818 for animal theft, transported for 14 yrs. John was run over by the Maitland train at Hexham on 01.02.1860. He married Janet Riddle who was born in Scotland in 1803, transported for housebreaking in 1839, and died Buttai in August 1876. This couple had 3 children _ John (born abt 1842 - poss Singleton), Harriet Maria (Married Edward Simons / Simmons) (1845 (Singleton)-1870) and Thomas (1849 (Jerry's Plains)-1918). John snr was a butcher. His son Thomas had a farm at Buttai. I know that John jnr was alive when his mother died in 1876 (according to her death cert) but that is really all I now. Can't find (and pin on him) a marriage, death or other record. I have tracked other John Burgess's only to prove they were not mine. Does any one have my John?

Hi, Does anyone know where Dr Martin Mason was born or originated from. He disappeared in Portsmouth in 1812, and never made it back to Australia. Thank you Marie. Fay
Hello Fay. No knowledge, but a thought instead. As this is in 1827, perhaps there might be a chance that they were still with him a year later in 1828, in which case they might appear with him in the 1828 census. I'd also expect that he would have kept a diary of his explorations. Have you checked to see if the Mitchell Library in Sydney has a copy of it. Also, what about the Sydney Gazette? Have you checked the indexes to them. It is several decades since I consulted them, but I THINK that they used to be held in the Mitchell Library in Sydney too. Which makes me remember the National Library of Australia old newspaper site -- where the Sydney Gazette along with the Maitland Mercury are the two NSW newspapers digitised so far. I expect that you might find a lot of information in there. Good Luck. ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "fay cains" <[email protected]> >I am researching the trail of Allan Cunningham through Liverpool /Gwydir > area in 1827. Hi Fay, Can't help with the 6 men, but this is a good Cunningham site with pictures, map etc. http://www.jenwilletts.com/allan_cunningham.htm Happy hunting, Marie

G'day John, You may well be correct John--as I said 'I understood'. I knew Fred fairly well and I vaguely recall him saying that there was a distant relationship--but I may be wrong. It's a long time ago. Hope you are keeping well. Greg.
Hi Greg, I am not sure that there was a relationship between Jimmy Tulloch and the family of Reg Tulloch. I do recall that Jimmy was a regular customer at Head's grocery store. Rumour has it that on more than one occasion he sought to settle his account with produce from his vineyard. Hi Dianna, Tullochs had a vineyard, 'Fordwich', near Broke and about 20 miles from the popular vineyards at Pokolbin. James [k/a Jimmy] Tulloch was growing grapes at 'Fordwich' long before table wines gained acceptance in Australia--perhaps as early as the WW1. There was still a Tulloch listed at 'Fordwich' as recently as 2001. Other Tullochs lived at Maitland around 1950, who were, I believe, related to Jimmy. Alexander Tulloch began a grocery store in John St, Singleton about WW1, which was later carried on by his son Reginald Tulloch, and later by grandsons. I have always thought that this family was related to the 'Fordwich' Tullochs. Regarding the Boyle name--there were at least two such families living in Singleton in the 1920--1960 period. James [Jimmy} Boyle had a butchery in John St., and Ernie Boyle was a pastrycook. There may have been some relationship between these families, as Ernie's son was Jimmy's slaughterman. HTH. Regards, Bennie. ----- Original Message ----- From: "dianna charles" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2009 9:49 AM Subject: [HV] TULLOCH/BOYLE FAMILES > > Hi > I'm doing research into Sarah TULLOCH who married Richard BOYLE in > Maitland in 1863. Hi I'm doing research into Sarah TULLOCH who married Richard BOYLE in Maitland in 1863. From death records it looks as though Sarah is the daughter of James and Helen. Richard maybe the son of George and Catherine. Sarah and Richard were living at Patricks Plains and had at least 10 children. I couldn't find Sarah Tulloch's birth. I know there is a big Tulloch family who are in the wine business in the Hunter. I don't know if there is any connection. Any others searching this family Kind regards Dianna Charles
