Hi Listers, I am continuing to search for the siblings of my GG grandmother, Mary Ann LYNCHEY/LYNCH, who arrived in 1835 aboard the MARY III with their convict mother , Sarah LYNCHEY. Because of the "stain of convictism" this convict connection may have been erased from the family memory. I know, from the indent of convicts on the MARY III, that they were a son and a daughter and were free but have no certain names however indirect details suggest that they were Sarah and James. The mother and one of their siblings. Thomas, were sentenced on the Isle of Man in 1833, all arrived in 1835 with Thomas on a separate vessel the Mary Ann. A Sarah and a James LYNCH entered the Female and the Male orphan Schools during September 1835 shortly after the arrival of the MARY III on 6th September. The daughter may have worked for a family DACRE on Kennington Farm at Hexham and married a Patrick AHEARN of Wollombi in 1847 and had at least 2 children born 1848 and 1854. My GG grandmother's family gradually changed her maiden name from LYNCHEY to LYNCH and while this was probably to hide their convict connection I have found that this also occurred in Northern Ireland and Eire where once there were many LYNCHEYS there are none in today's white pages, something that a County Down researcher has told me "just happened" over the later 19th and early 20th centuries. I would also like to find what happened to Thomas LYNCHEY after his Ticket of Leave in 1844 issued by the "Muswellbrook Bench". Cheers Peter Melbourne
Hi everyone I need Help. Many years ago I put my family tree and history on Family Tree Maker 4.4 and backed it up on cd. But when our old computer gave up I thought I would be able to just open the CD on our new computer. But it did not work. I bought a new FTM 2009 version but cannot upload all the old info. What do I do? Kind regards Heather

Good evening list, Apologies for cross posting. Today the AGM of Ryerson Index Inc was held at the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney. On www.ryersonindex.org there are currently nearly 2.1 million entries indexed in just over 10 years. Over 130 indexers submit information from 149 newspapers, but apparently there are nearly 2,000 newspapers published in Australia, so the following questions were posed :- Is there a newspaper in the area listers live, or have an interest in that is not being indexed? Are copies of the death, and/or funerals notices readily available to be copied? Is there a lister, or group, interested in indexing that information for inclusion in the Ryerson Index? Is back information available for indexing for the relevant paper of interest? There is contact information on the Ryerson Index website, or anyone having a question can contact me direct, [email protected] Currently information is being added to the Ryerson Index at an average of 900 entries daily, updated every couple of weeks and the committee are keen to increase the information available FREE to anyone who cares to log onto the site. Sincerely, Bill

Hello Roseanne, As Heather has remarked, our Piper family is not related . Capt. John Piper has left large footprints to follow ! Cheers Marje Marje Does the above book have any reference to the Piper's who were in Bathurst? I have a Frederick William Piper who married Mary Elizabeth Lamont - Frederick's parents were John Piper and Mary Ahern - John's were Captain John Piper (I believe well known on Norfolk Island) and Mary Ann Sheers. Hi I already have my own copy (thankyou for your offer of sending info from it), after tracking down the author and was able to buy one via him. I even sent him an updated tree on my branch. Roseanne..... nothing on the descendants of Capt John Piper are given, he is a totally different line to mine - which starts with 2 convict brothers from Middlesex who came here together (Francis, g/father of William Brisbane who m. Rachel Bramble & Edward who is on my side) regards Heather Macdonald
Hello Heather, I wonder if you have read the book "The Minorca Pipers" written by Graham M.H.Piper, which gives a detailed family tree dating back to about 1580 and information on the first 2 generations of Pipers born in Australia. There is a photo of both William Brisbane Piper and his wife Rachel Bramble with 6 pages of information of them, including a list of their children. If wanted I can send this information to you privately. My husband is a descendant of Rachel's sister Eliza who married William Belton, early settlers of Forster. Dear Fay, Rod and Wendy GOW have indexed a lot of information from that area. Some, if not all is on the internet so try google by their name. Each holder of a Liquor License had, and still does, renew it annually. About August their is a list in the Government Gazette naming every licence holder and the name of their outlet. Wine and Spirits I believe is a different licence to that for beer. Look on www.records.nsw.gov.au under Publican. I know there is a help sheet which they call Archives in Brief on the subject. While on that site look for the name of your person, because anyone who left an estate is listed there. You could well find he has a Probate Packet. For more information on them on that site look under Probate. There is also an AIB on that subject too. Hi Bramble hunter's I have Lydia marrying James Palmer, Jane Elizabeth m. William Buckman. my interest is their sister Rachel who married into the Piper line of Gosford - who is related to me by my Creighton/Piper line. regards Heather Macdonald
Hi Listers. I am seeking information on John Taylor, Johann & Juliana Wenz and the 'Cross Keys Hotel', connected with Lochinvar in the 1840's & 1850's. My ancestor, John/Johann Wenz, was a vinedresser (one of the first bounty workers, brought out by the Macarthur brothers of Camden Park.) He and his family arrived on the 'Kinnear' in April 1838. After his 5 yr contract expired he moved to Lochinvar. At the time of his death in Lochinvar in Feb1853 he was an 'Innkeeper". He was also a bricklayer and on a daughter's death certificate stated to be a 'distiller'. Records show that his wife, Julia Wince [sic] (Julia/Juliana Wenz) held the licence for 'Cross Keys' in May, 1853. Her son-in-law, John Coleman (m Anne M Wenz in 1850 in Maitland) held the Publicans General Liccence in 1854 to 1857. In 1858 John Coleman applied for a licences for a new house and was granted after being opposed by Mr Mullen. " Johann Wenz worked for John Taylor of Lochinvar in the Hunter Valley, where he laid out a vineyard of twenty-eight acres and worked until he won a house in a lottery in Sydney about 1849." (from Greetings from the Land where Milk and Honey flows: the German Emigration to NSW 1838-1858, ed by Patricia Cloos and Jurgen Tampke. See pp 11, 22, 27, 97, 116, 193-4.) I believe the area planted was near the existing B & B 'Lochinvar House' off the New England Highway but would like to confirm this. Lindsay Wood in his book "Lochinvar: a history of the township and local district",2005 p.80 states that John Taylor is mentioned on conveyancing deeds 1843-44 for Lots 1-12. Cynthia Hunter cites a reference in 'Maitland Mercury' on 29-5-1847 to Mr Taylor as being a representative for the Scotch company (Aberdeen Investment Company). I would like to confirm: a) the location of the planting of vines in the 1840's; b) identity of John Taylor (eg bmd) and any other info; c) location of 'Cross Keys Hotel', Lochinvar and any other relevant info, eg owner (maybe Mr Mullen); d) burial place of John/Johann Wenz (1794-1853) and Julia/Juliana Wenz (1792-1855). Both were RC. Any information or leads will be greatly appreciated, Fay Lawrence, [email protected]
