Evening all, The Rouse Hill Cemetery listing has now been uploaded. http://members.optushome.com.au/dianep/ Plus some 'news', and contacts, for a newly formed community group known as the Friends of Rouse Hill Cemetery (FRHC). A major clean-up was held at the cemetery on the weekend ... it looks a whole lot better now ! Regards, Diane
Hi Diane, You are again the bearer of wonderful news for me. I visited the Rouse Hill cemetery a year or so ago and was concerned that it was looking a little rundown and that it might give way to new housing in the area. I wish to express my interest in the cemetery and thanks to the Friends by copying this reply to them and would be pleased to hear from them re the group. James James and Amelia Ann James (nee Fishburn) who are buried at this cemetery are my ggg grandparents. Also their son Matthew and his wife, Rebecca May nee Hallighan are buried here. Tragically Rebecca died in chilbirth when only 18 years old. It was obviously too much for poor Matthew who was found in bushland at Kellyville, dead by hanging, having committed suicide a few months later. The four share a headstone which is a four sided tall sandstone obelisk on a sandstone plinth towards the front of the cemetery. Samuel Schofield and Grace Schofield nee Retallak buried here are pioneers of the district, the suburb of Schofield being named after Samuel's father, John who was a convict aboard Minerva 1821. Their daughter, Grace Emily Schofield, married Albert James, another son of James James and Amelia Ann James. Ann Skinner nee Moulds buried here is the daughter of Simon Moulds and Rosetta James and the niece of James James. Ann's husband George and sons Henry and John Skinner and their wives Gertrude May nee Whitmore and Theresa Jane nee Atkins respectively are also buried here. By the way, George Skinner and Ann Moulds were married at St Jude's Church, Dural for which you have a photo on your site. John Robert Brien buried here is the son of my gggg grandparents, Daniel Brien and Mary Ann Parker. As you can see, the cemetery does have some interest for me. Thanks again for the beginnings of a wonderful web site.
