    3. Hello, I am researching BOWEN. I have a marriage of John BOWEN to Mary or Margaret O'BRIEN in 1915 in Hunter Valley district. I would be pleased to hear from anybody belonging to this family of Bowens. I believe there were other Bowen who m. O'Briens in same family. Thank you. YvonneGet more from the Web. 3. Hello Yvonne, I also am researching the family of Bowen. My William Bowen arrived with his wife Elizabeth, on the ship "Magnet" in 1827. There are a number of references to William on the AGCI microfiche of convicts assignments, and land transactions. William successfully applied for 3 land grants from governors Gipps and Brisbane. One such grant was subdivided up and was sold off to family and friends and was known as "Farmborough". The township became Black Creek, now called Branxton. William and Elizabeth had two children. Thomas and Elizabeth jnr. Thomas died young unmarried. Elizabeth married Thomas Raisbeck and inherited his father landholdings. Thomas and Elizabeth's son William married my gg grandmother Bridget Sweeney. He was her 2nd husband. As yet I have not found the entry into the colony for Thomas. Why did William Bowen come to the Maitland area? As yet I have not found out. I also have heard of John and Mary Bowen living there, and am trying to find out if they are connected. I saw the "Magnet's" reel a few weeks ago which lists the passengers, unfortunately no mention of where the Bowen's came from. The 1828 census on CD also shows the household of William Bowen, and who the convicts were working for him. Hoping this is of help to you, best wishes in your research.
