Hi Ray In reply to you inquiry, what I have found out so far. Edwin John Hawkins- born Sept. 1853 in Portsea UK.( I found the listing with ref number to apply for certificate) He died 12-7-1925 and is buried at Sandgate Cemetery with Emma, who died 15-8-1923. His parents were Edwin J Hawkins (Quarter Master in the Navy) and Maria Eales married 1-10-1848 at St. Mary's Portsea (www.familysearch.org). Apparently Portsmouth and Portsea and next to each other or there was a name change. It has not been easy tracking down Emma, Mother: Sarah Taylor b: abt. 1835 Bombay, India, somehow ended up in SA and at 15 years of age 23-9-1849 married Richard Sadler in Adelaide SA. They had one son William born 1850, and I think I have found 3 girls born 1853 and 1856 in Wollongong NSW. I cannot find the birth of Emma so maybe she wasn't registered!!!!!! Sarah with Samuel Benjamin Legge 1863 -1884 Samuel died 1884 buried Sandgate, Sarah then married Charles Sims 1886 she died 1895 and was buried with Samuel at Sandgate. Edith May was my ggrandmother, on all the certificates I have she was brought up as a Hawkins, on the other birth certificates of the siblings they changed the date of their marriage to 1878? Edwin John Hawkins b: 1885 I think he was married twice 1911 at Wickham to Jane M Paton, then in 1917 to Beatrice Henderson at Hornsby.BDM records. He was living at 66 Ridge St, Merewether in 1925 (father's death cert.) and at 112 Ridge St, Merewether in 1952 when he died.(CD from Newcastle Library). I also have William Hawkins married 3 times Florence E Harvey 1911, Ilma J Davidson 1919 at Hamilton and Elizabeth James 1939 at Wickham, he had 8 children. I hope this helps you Lesley
