Hi Marie, According to the Hunter Valley Directory : 1841 there was a John Anthony DOBBS who received a Ticket of Leave for the Maitland District in August, 1840. He arrived on the 'John 1' (4), 1832. Also, according to Death in the Hunter, an Inquest was held for an Anthony DOBBS, aged 33, in February, 1843, at Maitland. There are three John Brennans listed in the HVD - only one listed as a convict at the time - John BRENNAN, Convict, assigned to Andrew LANG, Paterson (Sept. 1840) who arrived per 'Andromeda 11' (1) in 1830. Some info about the LANG family and Dunmore House can be found at http://www.nationaltrust.com.au/dunmore.asp Their convict Indents, Ticket of Leave Butts and/or Permission to Marry may provide some further info. I think that there are some GRONO descendants on this list, so they may get in touch; or you could try the AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS mailing list, if you haven't already; there are some details on the GRONO family at http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/page105.html and from memory there was a recent reunion and book published. So, a few references you could follow up on.
